Joseph Policy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 18, 2022.
Joseph James Policy, born in Youngstown, Ohio, July 12, 1945, passed away July 16, 2022 in Jupiter, Florida. Joe, or Jay, as his family called him, led a colorful and storied life. Leaving Ohio, still in his late teens, Jay signed on as a tour guide for the FBI-got his picture taken with J. Edger Hoover. He developed a love of media and scored a job at D. C. area's Channel 20 in the 60s directing televised wrestling bouts, teen dance shows, and racial justice forums.

Called to serve his country in the 70s, he was assigned to Voice of America as a newsreader. Later, he traveled to Seoul, Korea, where he was a member of the broadcast team of American Forces Korea Network. Ever the opportunist, Jay found time to design and contract out a copper-floored discotheque, "Tomorrow," built in the Chosun Hotel in downtown Seoul. Best New Year's Eve ever! After his stretch overseas, Jay went to Washington state to work in Communications at Fort Lewis until his discharge in 1972.

Broadcast journalism took him to Altoona PA, Atlanta, GA, New Orleans, LA, and finally West Palm Beach FL, where Jay turned to print media. The 80s found him reporting, editing, and creating magazine specials at the National Enquirer, a 25-year stint. The past 17 years were packed with an eclectic variety of work with magazines, a partnership in a health facility, and his own online company, "Career Central," posting job opportunities in academia. He loved golf, traveling, and hosting family dinners.

Jay leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Carole, beloved daughters Amy Persenaire (Todd), Holly Perella (Paul), and grandchildren Dylan Persenaire and Sydney and Summer Perella-his pride, his joy. His brother, Mark Policy (Kathie) and nephew Nicholas Policy and family and a multitude of friends also mourn his loss. St. Patrick Church in Palm Beach Gardens, FL will host his funeral Mass and the celebration of his life August 20, 2022 at 10 am.

I am sorry that this is so late but I want to express my sympathy over Joe´s passing. I believe he was a classmate of mine at the Defense Information School at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis when we were in the Army in 1970. I remember his clear `announcer´s´ voice and always felt that he would end up in news broadcasting or some closely related field. Joe was a good fellow at DINFOS and was well-liked and respected by all of us, his classmates. I hope he enjoyed a fruitful and successful life after we graduated and went our separate ways. Again, my sorrow to hear of his passing. God bless.
