I was a patient of Dr. Riggs, he was wonderful as a physician and caring, sincere person. He saved my life because of a crisis and very important surgical procedure I required. I cried the day he informed me he was going to retire. There is no one like him and he will "always" be in my prayers and thoughts...I continue to miss him, speak of him and always will remember him and services he rendered to me...his care and love for me and all his patients and family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren..Always remembered and loved! Forever missed... God Bless a wonderful physician and man. Annette Bevilacqua

Our family would like to extend our sincere sympathy to the entire Riggs family. We are in shock and our hearts hurt to learn of this very sad news. He was my mother's doctor, my doctor for over forty years and my daughter's doctor. I cried when he retired. I remember years ago even going to Ocean City for a doctors visit. I have so many fond memories of him through those years especially when he delivered my son on January 1, 1969, his First Hammonton NJ New Year Baby. Dr. Riggs was a kind and caring physician. He brought me through many medical surgeries and I am grateful. He always had a kind word and spent time catching up on what the family was doing. He knew my husband and always asked about him. He was thrilled to hear his New Year Baby became a Division 2 Head Football Coach and my grandson was playing football for Johns Hopkins. The favorite part of my office visit were the buttons he wore. They were his pride and joy and each had a wonderful story that he loved telling. He was the BEST of the BEST. He was a doctor to be admired. I always loved knowing he had been to Mass before his rounds. May God continue to bless him and the entire Riggs Family.

He leaves this earth now but his spirit remains with all of us whose lives he touched not only through his profession but also with his kindness. Heaven's gates are wide open to welcome him home. We are very sad but the angels are smiling as Our Lord says "Welcome my good and faithful servant. You have done well my son." May our "Good Doctor" always rest in peace and in the arms of Our Lord.

I read many of the words of condolence and praise of good old Joe. I second all of them in spades. I've been blessed in my life having so many extraordinary friends and Joe was right at the top. So I just want to add a precious quality that Joe brought to all of us who had Joe in our lives. And that's simply was that Joe was fun! Thank you Joe for bringing that enormous joy to all of us whose lives you touch.Vinny Kelly

To the Riggs family

My life has been immeasurably enriched, as have the lives of hundreds of others, by the warmth and kindness of this special man. In a world where grace and compassion are woefully lacking, Dr. Riggs was a beacon of spiritual humanity. I will always be thankful for him reaching out to provide support and comfort to me as I was experiencing serious medical concerns. I will always regard him as an exemplar of simple, fundamental human goodness. He leaves this earth with an enduring legacy that will live on in those of us whose lives he touched.

Dear LoAnn, Joe and Riggs family,
I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your awesome patriarch. Dr. Riggs was a fixture in Haddonfield for decades as well as one of the most diehard sports fans at HMHS. He had quite an accomplished career but I'm sure his most proud legacy is his beautiful family. Find peace in all the great memories you have of him.

Dear Lola and all the Family
Joe was a remarkable human being. He was loved by so many people. I owe so much to Joe, my getting involved directly with Georgetown and the Medical School. It was he who was instrumental in my getting the John Carroll Award. He was the reason our three girls are graduates of the Medical School. And somewhat indirectly was responsible for our two sons to be Graduates of the Law School. He was loved by many many people whose lives he has touched. May God give him Joyous Welcome at the Gates of Heaven..

I am so saddened to hear of Joe's passing. Having the opportunity to know and become friends with Joe and his beloved and beautiful wife, Lola, is one of my most treasured experiences of time spent with my husband, Donald, at meetings of the American Medical Association. Joe was such a handsome, kind, and generous man. He was so proud to be a medical doctor and cared deeply for his patients. Joe taught me the importance of making others feel special by small, but personal, gestures. Joe called those he held dear to heart on their birthday each year. I always felt honored to be included on Joe's birthday call list. I will miss hearing from him greatly. I send to Lola my love and condolences and wish peace and comfort for each and every member of the Riggs family as they grapple with this huge loss. Sincerely, Robin Spencer Palmisano

So sad! I recently talked with Joe. He sounded great and was very upbeat. Every birthday Joe would call and it was great to hear from him. He was a dear friend and always willing to help in any way. We served together on the AMA Board of Trustees. He will be missed. May he Rest in Peace. I know his family will find comfort in the treasure trove of memories and all the lives he enriched.

Lori and family,

Sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Riggs.

While I only met him a few times I have a great memory from the 1980's where I was doing some landscaping work on the beach behind your home and the OCPD took me away. Your dad wearing only gym shorts and sandals came and got me out.

A great father and a beautiful man leaving a wonderful family legacy. God bless.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Riggs family. I was Dr Riggs patient for about 20 years. The one thing that stuck out with Dr Riggs was his grandchildren's button that he wore with so much pride and joy. I was sadden the day I was told that he was retiring. May he rest in peace.

Funny conversation with Dr. Riggs: years after delivering my daughter Michele gratis, he asked about her. I told him she was a lawyer. He said great, she's over 21 and can't sue me now.

I am a better person having known Dr. Riggs. He led by example not words. I don't think you will be able to find a better example of a man who loved his family and friends to the extent Dr. Riggs did. His children are a testament to his ability to install the love of life that only comes from a deeply religious conviction.
Dr. Riggs will sorely be missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to know him and be touched by him.
