Every year it was always a challenge to find him something for his birthday. We'd always ask him what he wanted and his response was always "don't get me anything, save your money". When we were younger we usually got him a new tie or a nice sweater...and those sweaters always had to be button-up so that he could have easy access to the breast pocket of his shirts go get at the ever-present notebook. As we got older his presents became some kind of new technology to make his life a bit easier. He always thought the new technology was really cool but he would never attempt to use it until I arrived home for Christmas or had the time to set it up for him...and explain it to him, thoroughly. One present he always enjoyed was going to dinner at a restaurant of his choice. He particularly liked the free birthday dinner offered at Tucker's Marketplace...We'll definitely miss those times with him. He would have been 71 today. Happy birthday, Dazy.

My condolances go out to the Sanders family for the passing of your Father. You must be very proud in everything he accomplished in his life. Joe always spoke highly of his children. He was very proud of them. Joe was a very kind and helpful person. He loved to give a helping hand when needed. Joe could be very witty at times too. I'm honoured to have met and known your Father even if it was for a short time. I know Joe was very , very proud of his grand-daughter Kiana. I'm so happy he got a chance to be a grand-father and spend time with her. My prayers are always with you.

Very sad to hear of Joe's death. He was a remarkable individual, a warm friend and a great raconteur. He was an unusual and talented person and I will miss our lunches, our discussions on Guyana, London, the BBC, which hotels to stay at and which to avoid, First Nations Politics, and life in general...

My condolences to his family and to Carole.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
