You know, Grandpa, you always said you would dance with me at my wedding. You may not have physically been there, but I had your picture in a charm in my bouquet along with dad's. You were both walking me down the aisle with Pop and Uncle Bob. You and dad were also dancing with me at my wedding in spirit. Love and miss you bunches. <3

To Robert and Joes children,
The Scagliotti family and the Rumazza's go way back to both our grandfathers generation -- having both come to the US from Italy. I remember all the family visits and wonderful stories. They go way back to the early 1900's and the formative years of Rochester. Sorry I was not here for the funeral -- Bob I would have loved to see you and the family. My sincere sympathy in the loss Joe. He was an exceptional man.

Joe was a special man whose door was always open to everyone. I for one could never resist stepping through his doorway each time I went by. He was a proud American Vet who told me stories of WWII that one would never find in a textbook. I loved talking to him about the Red Sox, he was a dedicated and loyal fan. One of my fondest memories of Joe was going down to Fenway with him and his family. He had a sparkle in his eyes and a grin from ear to ear that day! He was a creative man, evidenced by his wood carvings and his portraits made from telephone wire! Joe will always be remembered as a loving family man, a man who stretched out his open arms to help wherever he was needed, and a proud man who did his part in securing and protecting his family and country. He will be missed by many, including myself.

July 23, 2011

Dad,
You were the best. Thanks for being my Dad.
Love,
Joan

July 18, 2011

Dear Thom and Joan, I am so sorry for your loss. As I shared the news with my daughters they were saddened as well. We were his neighbors on Logan Street and enjoyed his friendship and his thoughtful ways. He was always so willing to lend a hand if ever I needed one. He encouraged me to grow my sunflowers, however, never as big or as beautiful as his! He was great with my girls and they loved to bake him muffins! He will be missed by us all. Our love and prayers go out to you all. With our deepest sympathy, Tracy, Kayleigh and Sadie Steffen

Papa Joe, was the kind of man we all may aspire to become, and hope, in the end ,we "might" be. I was fortunate to know and love him for many years. One could go on endlessly in trying to describe this
unique and wonderful man, yet words do so often fail. I would simply say, just being in his orbit made you feel the way you should feel on your best days.He had that sweetness , charm and grace; the unbounded joy for life and for people that was contagious in the best sense. Our sorrow at his passing is tempered by our fondest memories.Sometimes we get a special blessing that takes the human form, Papa Joe!

I worked with Joe at NET from 1969 until he retired in 82. We also were active together in the IBEW. I have nothing but good memories of those days. If Joe had bad days, he never brought them to work with him. He was a good man, and will be missed. My sincere condolences to all of his family.

Joe was always a good and caring man. We had a good many years of fellowship while working with New England Telephone Company. He was always ready to help in any situation.
