Joseph Schallert Obituary
Dr. Joseph A. Schallert MD, 43, of Belleville, Ill., born Nov. 4, 1969, in St. Louis, Mo., died Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Dr. Schallert was a 1987 graduate of Collinsville High School and a member of the 1987 State Championship Soccer Team. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry (Magna Cum Laude) from SIU-Edwardsville. Dr. Schallert graduated from SIU Medical School and the St. Louis University Medical Residency Program. He has practiced with Family Physicians of Southern Illinois since 1998. He also was a member of the Belleville Elks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kimberly Ann, nee Stroud, Schallert.
Surviving are his four children, Mary, Grace and twin sons, Robert and Alex, all at home; his mother and step-father, Susan (John) Sovar; his father and step-mother, Alexander (Rene) Schallert of High Ridge, Mo.; father and mother-in-law, Robert and Diane Stroud of Belleville, Ill.; his five siblings, Ed Schallert of Maryville, Ill., Cathy (Paul) Hart of Glen Carbon, Ill., Susan (Todd) Hickman of Belleville, Ill., Alex (Amy) Schallert of St. Louis, Mo., and Shannon (Dan) Miller of High Ridge, Mo.; nieces and nephews, Paul Hart Jr., Meghan Nyland, Mia Hickman, Michael Hickman, Alex Schallert, Caleb Schallert and Matthew Miller; his special family, Kerry (and the late Lorraine) Russell of Edwardsville, Ill., and their son, B.J. Russell, also of Edwardsville, Ill.
Dr. Schallert's family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Memorial Hospital for their special care.

Visitation: Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral procession to leave at 9:15 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013, from Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Teresa's Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill., with Monsignor David Darin officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.

My prayers and condolences go out to the family and children of Dr. Schallert. I never knew Joe as a doctor. I knew him as a high school friend and teammate. I only had minimal contact with him as an adult but he was a very caring and genuine person. He would always ask my gf,who was a patient of his, how I was doing. He often talked about our high school days. Rest in peace Joe.

Dr Schallert was my doctor for a few years before his sickness. It was a great pleasure to know such a caring physician. He was truly one of the best. My prayers are with his children and family.
