Joseph Skinner, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 31, 2023.
Joseph Nicholas Skinner, Jr. died peacefully on December 8, 2023, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice, Florida, surrounded by family.

Joseph, Jr., known as Joe, was born June 1, 1957, in Laurel, Maryland, to Joseph, Sr. and Dorothy Skinner. The son of a horse trainer, he spent his youth around horses and at the race track.

At 21, he married the love of his life, Trudy Whiteford, in a small ceremony at the Howard County courthouse. Shortly after, he took a job driving tractor-trailers, which he made his career. He took pride in his work ethic and ability to provide for his family.

Joe and Trudy were eventually blessed with two children, Heather and Joseph, III., who meant the world to them. Heather and Joey have many happy memories of their father, especially summer vacations in Ocean City, MD.

Joe's dedication to Trudy was known to all as he spent his later years caring for Trudy after a serious car accident.

A fan of sunshine and warm weather, he moved to Englewood, FL to reconnect with his sisters after his wife's passing. He spent his days playing guitar, riding his motorcycle, kayaking, and playing bongos in the local drum circle.

Known for his good-natured personality, to know him was to love him.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Trudy. He is survived by his children, Joe, III. and his wife, Kathleen of Richmond, VA, and Heather and her husband Chris of Baltimore, MD; grandchildren Micah, Caleb, Charlotte, and Maxwell; sisters Carole and Jackie and her husband R.K. of Englewood, FL.

Funeral Services will be held on January 6, 2024, at 10:30 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Ellicott, City, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations be made in his name to hungryformusic.org which places instruments in the hands of children who need them.

I've known him since he was born. He was my younger brother we had so much fun playing ice cream stores in our parents shed that had a window that we passed out pretend hot fudge sundaes. Glad we were lucky enough to spend time these very short years together. I miss you.
