I got to know Joe after he joined Mot Labs-PRRC a few years ago. Although our interactions were limited, mostly through patent committee, S3 Symposium organization committee, and few other occasions, he was always open minded, listen to opposing views and go above and beyond to help out. It’s pleasure to work with him and he will be dearly missed!

Joe was my first manager when I jointed PRRC, Motorola Labs. I really enjoyed every moment I worked with him. His honest statement that Joe said to me was “I am here working for you”. God will take care of you, Joe.

Tribute to Joe Tomase
It is with profound grief that I pay tribute to memory of our dear former supervisor and friend Joe Tomase. Joe had a tolerant, sincere, honest and sympathetic heart. He was one of the best leaders I have ever worked with. I will always remember his concern and kindness towards me and other Motorolans.
May Joe rest in peace.

Joe Tomase was my mentor and supervisor in the automotive group when I first joined Motorola 14 years ago. We continued our close work relationship when he joined PRRC, which continued through to the present day. Joe had great experience and wisdom that he shared liberally and often with colleagues. I valued Joe’s friendship, insight and counsel highly and sought them out on regular basis. I can honestly say that things always seemed a little brighter after spending a few minutes with him. In his comments he emphasized the importance of family and of striving to do the right thing. He listened when challenges arose. He cheered when successes were realized. He offered to help and serve in any capacity. In fact, the last thing Joe said to me was “If there is anything I can do to help you, please let me know.”
If there is any statement that captured Joe’s spirit to serve others, it is those words. It is a statement I heard him say many times in the moments just before leaving his office.
Thank you Joe for positively contributing to my life in so many ways these many years. I benefited from your wisdom, energy and your desire to make a difference in the lives of others. Thanks for making that difference and enriching my life.
May God bless you and reward you richly!
With fond Remembrance,
Bill Olson

Joe was my boss several years ago. More than that, I consider him my close friend. Even after I changed my job, he has generously helped me professionally and personally over the years (most recently just one month ago). It's impossible to forget Joe.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this. The Tomase family and the Rekasis family were good neighbors and friends in the 1960's and 1970's. Joe and I went to grammer school together at Our Lady of Lourds. I still warmly remember the snow ball fights, the block parties and the piano recitals we used to have. A very kind gentle man will be missed.

Remembrance of Joe Tomase
Words just cannot express the grief I am feeling with Joe's loss. He was a wonderful man that I was so lucky to work with in the last five years. I had a very great admiration for him, for his depth thinking, for his modesty, for his honesty, for his kindness. He was not only my supervisor but a friend I always counted on to be there when I needed. His influence on my life is unforgettable.
My sincere condolences to his family and those who knew him well.
