The Lord came to accompany Joseph "Joe" J. Vescio, 86, to his eternal home on Jan. 31, 2012. He was born on March 18, 1925, a son of the late Michele and Magdalene (Russo) Vescio. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an aviation mechanic. Joe retired from USS Irvin Works, where he held positions in both maintenance and management. He was a member of the Fayette City-Washington Township Lions Club, where he received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Joe was also active in both the Boy Scouts of America and the SPEBSQSA (Barber Shop Quartet). Prior to moving to Las Vegas, Joe attended the Concord United Methodist Church, in Rostraver Township, and was a member of the former Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, in Webster. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Catherine Vescio. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Bernice E. (Reeves) Vescio; son, Joseph J. Vescio II; daughter-in-law, Anita Vescio; granddaughter, Kimberley (Dana) Trueman; great-grandson, Evan Trueman; great-granddaughter, Maya Trueman, all of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Candice (Ralph) Cain, of Coatesville, Pa.; and brother, Francis Vescio, of Rostraver Township. Friends will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the JAMES C. STUMP FUNERAL HOME INC., 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon/Rostraver Township, (724) 929-7934, www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Rev. David K. Means officiating. Entombment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Rostraver Township Food Bank.
