Josephine Christian passed away on October 10, 2016 at Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital following a brief illness. The daughter of Samuel Herbert Wilson and Daisy Josephine Oxford, she grew up in Ormewood Park and graduated from Atlanta Girl’s High. While in high school, as a member of the Georgia State Girls Military Band she participated in the activities surrounding the premier of Gone with the Wind. An honor graduate from the UGA School of Home Economics, she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and served as Chapter President. Following her graduation, she worked for the US Army at Ft. McPherson and also served as Secretary at Martha Brown UMC for many years. A lifelong interest in family history lead her to membership in several hereditary organizations including the Joseph Habersham Chapter, NSDAR; Atlanta Chapter #18, UDC and Ladies of the Old Guard. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Milton Christian and daughters Charlotte Josephine Christian of Atlanta and Caroline Blanche Christian of West Hollywood, California. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 in the Chapel of Dunwoody United Methodist Church at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Atlanta Beagle Rescue, the Historic Oakland Foundation or a charity of your choice.

As native Atlantans, Josephine and I had happy conversations about the people and places we both knew well from our long lives in a city that has now changed forever. She was an intelligent, engaged, and engaging person, and a dedicated historian. She will be missed by her daughters, family, and her family in Atlanta Chapter 18, but her legacy will live in memory as a testament to a life well-lived.
With love,
Suzanne, Jeff, and Peyton Sammons
