Josephine FRANTZ Obituary

FRANTZ, Josephine
March 7, 1925 - Prince Albert, Saskatchewan
November 25, 2017 - Calgary, Alberta
Josephine Frantz (nee Mamczasz) passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the age of 92 years.
Josie is survived by her son John Frantz and spouse Lillemor, daughter Patricia Frantz, son Joe Frantz and spouse Laurie and daughter Marion Hill and spouse Blair; she also cherished her four grandchildren, Jonathan and spouse Gillian, Christopher and spouse Jennie, Jackson and Cole; and six great-grandchildren.
Josie was predeceased by her infant daughter Margaret; her parents Charles and Mary Mamczasz; her husband Lawrence "Larry"; brother, Michael Mamczasz; and her sister Anne Patroch.
Josie was born and raised in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She had fond memories of her dad's livery stable and the auction mart across the way. Summers often involved trips to family farms and Waskesiu Lake. In her teens she felt fortunate to attend the Emma Lake Art School. Her local education cumulated in attendance at the Convent of the Sisters of Sion. After grade school she took a bold move for a young woman at the time and moved to Saskatoon to attend university where she furthered her education while meeting a young Larry Frantz at the Newman Club. After graduating from the U of S she trained as a dietitian in Toronto.
Her heart was in the west and she returned to marry her university sweetheart Larry. She joined him in Calgary where she worked at the Holy Cross Hospital until making the choice to raise a family while providing assistance to Larry and his business. Her love of family and friends kept her busy helping everyone who needed her. She was always ready to hold a hand, dig a garden and say a novena to help.
After raising their family, Larry and Josie caught the travel bug and went on many trips in their motor home. They loved winters in Hawaii as well. After Larry's passing she continued to travel the world and have many adventures with family and friends. Her interest in art persisted and she returned to painting in her later years. She had a passion for gardening and could be seen late in the evening weeding her flower beds by street light. Her strong faith helped her through many bumps in the road and was a rock for her in the final days.
She will be missed as a devoted mother and gentle person of deep faith that always had concern for others.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Joseph's Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at 6:00 p.m.

Hi John, Dale Snelgrove here (yep still alive and well). Sorry to read about Josie's passing. I have very fond memories of her when we were kids and spent time at the house in Mt Pleasant. The last time a saw and talked to Josie was just after mom's funeral and she really looked good and was in good spirits. I am trying to track you down to see how you are. I am still in Calgary and my cell is 403-850-6145...call anytime!

Dear John,
Please accept my sympathies on the occasion of the death of your Mother, Josie. May she rest in peace. Memories of meeting your folks at St. Anthony's College many years ago are good ones.
Please know she and your family are carried in our prayers at Mount St. Francis Retreat where Foothill Printers did so much of our printing.
Blessings,
Kevin Lynch, O.F.M.

Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of "The Mama," as she was affectionately referred to. She had so many inspiring qualities and always made me feel welcome. I feel blessed to have been included in so many Christmas Eve feasts.

So much love ... so many wonderful memories.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Love, Catherine
