John Jones Obituary
Asheville - Mr. John E. "Crane" Jones, Sr. was born to Troy and Alberta Jones of Simpsonville, SC on August 15, 1941. He was raised in Buncombe County, NC at a young age. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beatrice Jones Briscoe; and a brother, James Jones.
John "Crane" moved to Asheville, NC at an early age completing his education from Stephens Lee High School in 1959 as an Honor Student. He also served faithfully as a Treasurer for Stephens Lee Class of 1959.
In his early years as an avid golfer, he started out as a caddy at Biltmore Forest County Club and worked diligently and was highly honored for his craft. John "Crane" was an honored member and Treasurer of Skyview Golf Association throughout his later years.
He started out as a waiter to becoming the Maitre'd at Biltmore Forest Country Club before a 25 year retirement. He then worked at the Greenery Restaurant until a second retirement.
John "Crane" Jones was a Deacon at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church until his failing health.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jaynie D. Foster Jones; along with a daughter, Elmerette (Greg) Irby of Winston-Salem, NC; and a son, Johnny E. Jones II of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; another son, Nathan (Donna) Jones of Woodbridge, VA; and another daughter, Karen "Casey" (David) Jeter of Asheville, NC. He had four grandchildren, Nicquia Spain, Crystal Jones, Alicia Jones and Janel Jones; two aunts, Daisy Robertson of Asheville, NC and Azalee Kilgore of Asheville, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Hart Funeral Service Chapel, 60 Phifer Street, Asheville, NC.
The Funeral Service for Mr. John E. "Crane" Jones will be held on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Nazareth First Missionary Baptist Church, 146 Pine Street, Asheville, NC, Rev. Mosley Officiating with interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hart Funeral Service.

My heart felt sympathy to the Jones family. I enjoyed the friendship we enjoyed growing up and seeing him every year at the Skyview Open. How sadly I felt when he could no longer play golf as his health declined. I will miss him very much. May he rest in the peace.

We remember Johnny so pleasantly from his many years at the Biltmore Forest Country Club. He was always the perfect host, making everyone feel at home, and such a lovely smile! He will always be a part of my memories of the Club. I'm sure everyone will miss him.

I was so saddened to hear of the loss of Crane. He fought a good fight, but now he is resting in the arms of Jesus. I know your tears are flowing now, but cherish all your wonderful memories.
