Joshua Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 28, 2025.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Joshua Walker Adams, age 23, of Chester, South Carolina, who went to be with the Lord on May 25, 2025. A beloved son, fiancé, grandson, nephew, and friend, Josh left an indelible mark on everyone who had the blessing of knowing him.

Born and raised in Chester, SC, Josh spent his teen years at Boys Farm in Newberry, SC-a place that shaped his heart and character and where his legacy of kindness, resilience, and joy continues to live on. He was a proud graduate of Newberry High School, where he was known for his warm spirit, quick wit, and deep love of baseball and golf.

At the time of his passing, Josh was pursuing his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Anderson University, driven by a calling to care for, serve, and help others. He brought warmth, a larger-than-life presence, and legendary "bear hugs" to gatherings with family and friends. His dream was to make a difference in the world and even in his brief time here, he did just that.

Josh loved his country, believed deeply in its constitution, and carried himself with quiet integrity and a servant's heart. He also found joy in the simple pleasures of life: fishing, listening to music, playing golf, and watching rain storms roll in. These brought him peace, a wonder in God's creation, and laughter.

He is survived by his loving fiancée, Emma Stockman, who was the joy of his life and his constant encouragement; his devoted mother, Sherrie Thompson; Uncle Tommy Curry (Darlene), Aunt Kristie Long (Jarrod) and his deeply loved grandfather, Bill R. "Paw Paw" Walker. Their grief is profound, but their pride in the man he became is unshakable. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Barbara L. "Nan Naw" Walker, and his aunt Beth Morris.

Josh also leaves behind many friends, mentors, and brothers from Boys Farm and beyond-each of whom carries a piece of his legacy forward.

A celebration of his life will be held at Columbia Crossroads Church on June 7 at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow. Casual and colorful dress is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Boys Farm, Inc.'s baseball field renovation project, in honor of Josh's life and the home that helped raise him.

Though his time with us was far too short, Josh lived a life full of love, purpose, and faith. We take comfort in knowing that he is now with his Savior, hearing the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Well, I never knew Josh, all that I have read that has been posted on Facebook tales of an outstanding young human being. He had so much potential, yet he lived life to the fullest for his 23 years. He has left a mark on so many lives that he will never ever be forgotten. Prayers are with the family, especially Emma. Prayers now are with his mother, Sherri, after the auto accident, that has left her so badly injured.

Josh was a light at AU and a constant encourager. He was one of the first people I met at AU in my TAG group. He was so kind and always smiled and stopped to chat when he saw me. He will be so missed.

Josh came to Smyrna Pres. when he was at Boys Farm. We always remember him as a kind, gentle giant who loved others fiercely, but moreover loved his Lord. Our prayers are with each of you . May you find comfort in the memories that you have of him and that He ran the race and fought the good fight .

My heart was hurt to hear of Josh's passing. When he came to live with Kristi and family he became one of my courthouse babies along with the girls. I watched him grow to become the man he was. Sending my sincere condolences to all the family. Jarrod, Kristi, Kaylee and Megan sending my love to all of you.

To know Josh was to love him! When he came to live with Kristie, Jarrod, Megan & Kaylee, he immediately became a part of our family! I am thankful that I have so many memories of our times together, whether at church or family gatherings. I am certainly going to miss that big smile and those awesome hugs anytime I saw him no matter where we were. Didn´t matter how long it had been since we had seen each other I was always met with a big smile and a "hey, Aunt Marcia" and then came the hug!!! I am so grateful that God allowed me to be a small part of Josh´s life. So thankful that Kristie & Jarrod brought him into our Hallman family! Go rest high Josh, for your work on Earth is done! Till we meet again, I love you big!!!

To Know Josh was to Love Him
When Josh came to live with Jarrod, Christie, Megan, & Kaylee he immediately became a part of our HallmanStrong clan. As a little boy he would visit GranGran at the nursing home & gently stroll her in the wheelchair & so sweetly talk with her. When Aunt Margaret was diagnosed with cancer, Josh asked his Boys Farm foster family to take him to visit her several times. Always thinking of others.
He also captured the heart of his Nanny Long.
Josh was Always loving, kind, & caring!
He has Truly left an Indelible mark on our big ole family !
Go Rest High Josh
Love,
Uncle Ron, Aunt Mirinda & Family

I wish I had more photos of the two of us together but Josh was one of the coolest people I´ve ever met. Our time together was short lived but he really was one of the truest and most sincere friends I had while I was at Anderson my freshman year. He was loyal and a lovable guy. I know it´s silly but this is a picture of our trucks. We bonded heavily over our love for old ford rangers and our pair was the most iconic duo on campus. I miss you brother, thank you for the love and the kindness you showed me and all of our friends from AU.
