As a member of the extended Brennan family and based in Dublin, Ireland I always feel that I have a link with any service personnel named Brennan who fall in the line of duty be it Military, Police, Fire Service. In Europe we so often had to depend on U.S. services to protect our way of life be it
as before from the Communist bloc and now from Islamic extremists.
Nearly forty years from Joshua's death it is important that his sacrifice is recognized and remembered.
May his faithful soul be at Gods right hand.

I just want you to know that the loss of your dear son, Joshua, is not forgotten. We are grateful for his service to his country--and humbled by the deep loss your whole family suffers.
Our family met your dear mom, M. Stouffers, at an airport layover in CA, when we were returning home with our son who had just completed USMC Boot Camp, in San Diego. Your mom shared with me about the terrible loss of her grandson. She tearfully showed me the gold star grandmother's pin she was wearing. And she prayed for the protection of our new Marine son, who would be training to be a Special Ops/RECON Marine. I know it was extremely difficult for her to watch our young (18 yrs. old) son, without thinking of Joshua.
It has been 7.5 yrs. since we met your Mom and learned about your son. I cannot imagine how a family comes to peace over the loss of a son, but I know how often I worried about my son during his enlistment. Karl completed his 4 yrs. of service very honorably and has been a student at BSU for awhile. He hopes to complete a degree in Physical Therapy and one day help veterans who separated from the military with prosthetic devices, as a result of wartime injuries.
If possible, please thank your mother for her prayers for our son, way back in late Nov. 2007.
We hope your family is doing well and I just wanted you to know, this Memorial Day, that Joshua Brennan--and your family--is in our thoughts and prayers and we are humbled by his ultimate sacrifice for his country and those on the other side of our world.

5 years have passed and we wish our sons were still here. Josh and Hugo filled our lives with joy as children, they grew and brought us pride. Just Back from Church and wanted to tell you how wonderful the dedication of the Joshua Brennan Memorial Hall was. It is more than just a tribute to a fallen brother and a sign of the legacy that Josh and his Soldiers have provided for all of us.
As I talked with Mike and he related how made his decision to join the Army, that Josh wanted to do "something more meaningful with his life", I was reminded that Josh went beyond any of the selfish motives - his own life and safety; his family; his community; his Country. Josh's motives were for a better world for all and a chance for some people with a strange language and stranger customs to be able to live in freedom, to make their choices on how to live, and to make the World a better place for us all.
Joshua Brennan's life and sacrifice is a pretty tough act to follow - but you have shown us the way. What you have done, will long outlast our lives. Thank You and Thank you Mike and Janice for sharing your precious son with us!

Josh did what many would not. One can not say this about a lot of other people. Heros do things to protect others. To protect us. To protect the country we live in. You will always be a "Top shelf" person in this world Josh and the same goes to the family that, to this day, supports him.

hey sgt brennan that was a good thing to hear that you made it after i left i never would have thought that you would be gone i remeber it like it was yesterday when i was out in the baylough bowl with you and the other 173rd brothers the first day i got there everyone was like who are you and you helped me out and made me feel right at home even when there was attack going on you still wouldn't let anything get you down i met you when you were a SPC of course and i would always talk to you and the other guy's about my girl (my wife now ) but i would tell ya'll that's what kept me going i really hate the fact that i really didn't get to say good bye i had left and went to ft hood and i am in iraq again for the 3rd time while you had went back to the place we both just left i

Josh is a Hero in our home. My husband can remember when Josh was a little boy sitting beside him in a truck going to New York. Rob said he was a wonderful boy and we know he became a wonderful man. My children will only know of Josh as a Hero. I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.

We fully understand the pain you suffer. We lost our daughter Cpl Rachael L. Hugo KIA 05, October, 2007 Baji, Iraq.

May your memories of him give you comfort. As long as we keep them in our hearts they will always be with us. Thank you for raising such a brave and wonderful son!

To the family and parents of Joshua, I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many question as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There are no right or wrong ways to grieve, it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

My son,Eric Ortegren, and Barb Thompson's son Jeff, both served with Joshua. Eric loved Joshua very much and writes of what a humble quiet loving guy he was. Eric had him over to his home in Vicente and his daughter, Thora, loved him very much. That being said, we all loved him and suffer the loss of this beautiful human being along with you. We also love the soldier who risked and lost his life out of honor to your son. They were both heroes who epitamize the best of mankind. Our hearts grieve right along side of yours.

I am writing to offer my condolences to you and your family over the loss of your HERO Sgt Joshua Brennan. I lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.

I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

With the deepest regret, I have just learned of the death of Sergeant Brennan. As a Vietnam Veteran and the State Chaplain of the Georgia Society, Sons Of The American Revolution, I speak for our President, Charlie A. Newcomer, III and the more than 1,400 SAR members around the State of Georgia in humbly expressing the condolences of a grateful Society. Wrapped in the integrity of service to our nation and the inestimable values of duty, honor and country, your American hero stood on a wall of freedom for us all. This precious life, lived and lost in love of America, epitomized every attribute of patriotism the Sons Of The American Revolution hold dear. And, as Americans, we could never repay the debt we owe ..!! Nor the debt we owe you… the family of one of America's best ...!!!
