Garth, I was honored to be included in the invitation to attend your mom's memorial service. All the speakers were expressive and the cellist was magnificent. I feel so pleased that I got to know Joy as she was bright, poised, diverse in interests and such a caring mother and grandmother. She shared her love of you and Garth Ryan on several occasions. Rest in the guarantee that she is in a better place. That we can all can live the life that she lived. I am so glad we had those few luncheons at The Island Hotel together.

My mother (in law), friend, and "voice of reason". Thank you for always being there for Ceri and I, and keeping our family together. You will never be forgotten. Be safe and happy now with Craigie and Clive. Garth, thank you for everything you did for Mom, especially in these very difficult last few weeks. We love you and Garth Ryan. All our love, Adrienne and Ceri xxx

Garth, I was so sorry to hear about the passing of your mother (my "Aunty Joy"). Even though they haven't seen each other for a few years, mom loved the telephone and email relationship and always gave us updates on how you and Aunty Joy were doing. The photographs brought back so many great memories of dinners at your beautiful home in SA when all our parents were alive and having so much fun together. All the best to you and your family Garth... Jo Mark.

Garth, I wish I could have met your Mother. What wonderful words you wrote about her - she was very lucky to have such a loving son. Our prayers and thoughts go out to you today. Enjoy the celebration of your Mother today and every day cherish the many memories.

Garth,
Thank you so much for setting up this web page, so that we who are far away can share a little in this day of remembrance of your beautiful and special mother!
The pictures are wonderful, thank you.
I always remember "Aunty Joy" with her gorgeous red hair a being beautifully groomed. My most favourite memory of this dear lady was when she took me to Sandton City when I was 12 years old, and bought me my first pair of stillettos. My mother wasn't too happy about that, but I was thrilled, and I loved her for it!!!
Garth, and Garth Ryan, we are sorry that you now live without her, but we know what a special lady you've had all these years.
Warmly,
Melanie Alexander (née Zurel)

Dear Garth,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and Garth Ryan during this very difficult period. The pictures of your mom are very touching and a beautiful refelection of her accomplishments as a young lady, wife, mother and grandmother. She was truly an elegant and exceptional lady.
May you all take comfort in knowing that now you have a special guardian angel in Joy to watch over you.
May she rest in eternal paradise.

I remember well the times Dolf and I had visited Joy in Irvine Terrace and enjoyed talking about shared African experiences. She was our genenration and we had so many common interests and life stories. She is now with your farther,Garth, I can feel your sadness , but you know that there is no more suffering for your wonderful mother. I hope that you can replace the images of her last days with pictures of her younger years.May Joy rest in peace....

We are so sorry to hear of Joy's passing. Dallas remembers Joy from the farm in South Africa when he was very young, a cousin I never met but had so many enjoyable emails between us. She will be sadly missed.
We will be thinking of you both, Garth and Ryan, not only on Saturday 14th, but all the time and hope you can find some semblance of peace in the coming weeks and years.
Love to you both, Janette and Dallas Carbutt from Lancashire England. xx
