Joy B. McDowell, 66, of Goose Creek, SC, wife of Jerry McDowell entered into eternal rest Monday, August 21, 2023. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 4:00 pm. The family will receive friends Saturday two hours prior to the service.
Joy was born May 14, 1957 in Murray, KY, daughter of the late Carlton B. Buchanan and the late Naomia Stafford Buchanan. She enjoyed decorating her house, feeding her family especially her grandkids, playing with her grandchildren and her precious Lola (poodle), always having time to shop, collecting seashells and serving as matriarch of the family.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jerry McDowell; daughter, Kristen McDowell Snowden (Thomas) of Summerville, SC; son, Justin McDowell (Mindy) of Moncks Corner, SC; three grandchildren: Lauren Kate Snowden, Benjamin Wilson Snowden and Mackenzie Kay McDowell; her dog, Lola; four siblings: Dr. Jerry Buchanan (Karen) of Louisville, KY, David Buchanan of Hanahan, SC, Carol Tillman (Jim) of North Charleston, SC, Gayle Bochette (Frank) of Eloree, SC; and many loved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patsy Green.
