Mrs. Plemons was born July 22, 1920, in Crawford, Texas, the daughter of the late Richard "Dick" C. and Margaret Rosella (Cagel) Compton where she was a 1940 graduate of Crawford High School. She played guard on the basketball team and was described as playing "like a stirred up bumblebee." On October 31, 1942, she married Lloyd Russell Plemons in Waco. For a brief period of time, they lived in San Marcos and Michigan while Russell served in the U.S. Army Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the service, they returned to Crawford and began farming. After fifty-one years of marriage, he preceded her in death December 18, 1998.

The life-long Crawford homemaker was active in many community activities to include the Order of the Eastern Star where she served as a past Worthy Matron. In her earlier years, Joy attended Compton Methodist Church and later became a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. While at Shiloh, she served many years as secretary of the Church, was a Sunday School Teacher in the children's division and taught Vacation Bible School.

Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Nancy Ann Plemons; three brothers, Clodius Compton, Jack Compton, Woodrow D. "Fotch" Compton and a sister Daisy Jayroe.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Plemons and wife Glenda, Michael Plemons and wife Kathleen all of Crawford; a daughter, Pamela Hicks and husband Gerald of Troy; a brother, Marcus "M.L." Compton and wife Teresa of Crawford; Grandchildren Teresa Kimbrough, Christy Cox, James Hicks, Laura Bulls, Jacquelyn Plemons; great grandchildren, Kyndall Kimbrough, Kynnedy Kimbrough, Cori Cox, Caitlin Cox, Colby Cox, Blake Bulls, Colten "Coop" Bulls, Katie Hicks and Parker Hicks.
For those desiring, the family has suggested Shiloh Baptist church or the charity of the donor's own choosing for memorial contributions.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Westview Manor Nursing Home and Providence Hospice for the excellent care they gave Joy.

I was sad to learn of Joy's passing; it's always difficult to lose a parent. I have fond memories of Joy, she was the "life" of Shiloh during my early years there. She always spoke what was on her mind and I've come to admire that. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
