Joy Dell Poland Prendergast

Joy Poland Prendergast died March 3, 2012 in Katy, Texas. She was a teacher, mentor, best friend, mother, wife, industrial sales representative, secretary, and she wore a host of many other hats. There will be a celebration of life at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, 20775 Kingsland Boulevard, Katy, Texas 77450. Reception will follow in the Lott fellowship hall. Mrs. Prendergast was born in Lufkin, Texas on June 9, 1955. She graduated from Lufkin High School in 1973, and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1978. She was one of the first members of the Katy Independent School District Leadership Committee. She substitute taught in Katy ISD for 12 years and freely contributed thousands of hours of volunteer service to the local schools. She was a member of the St. Peter's United Methodist Church. She started work for Lufkin Industries in 1980 as their first female sales representative. She married her best friend, Donald F. Prendergast on July 3, 1983, and helped rear three great kids. She has been a driving force in Katy, Texas for the last 23 years. She was a devoted wife and mother, friend to many, and she was a mentor and teacher to countless young people everywhere she lived. She is survived by her husband, Don Prendergast, and their children, Natalie, Kelly, and Robert Prendergast, all of Katy, Texas; her father, Robert L. Poland, Sr.; her brothers, Charles Poland and Robert Poland, Jr., all of Lufkin, Texas; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-laws, cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews from all over the United States. Joy was predeceased by her mother, Adell Slover Poland and her brother, John Slover Poland, Sr., both from Lufkin, Texas.
