Place red roses over her memory to honor and thank her for her many accomplishments.

I worked with Joyce at Psychology Today when we were young Ph.D.s, enjoying our education as science writers. Joyce was always funny, fun, and smart, with an infectious laugh and spirit, and lots to tell us about chimps. We parted ways when the magazine moved to New York, but her memory and spirit remain with me always.

Here are 2 photos from 1975-76. In one Joyce is with Mary Calderone, MD, founder of SIECUS, and Wardell Pomeroy, PhD, Alfred Kinsey´s right hand man. In the other, Joyce is in the back row at Frank A. Beach´s 75th birthday and zeitschrift. I´m the other woman at the event (in the middle row), Joyce´s great friend and the author of this obituary.

I remember her warmth and humor. She lived far away, but our few contacts were very pleasant and lots of fun.

I only met Joyce once in l983(?) in New York while participating in our dear friend Leonore's 50th birthday gala. We attended the Met for" Les Troyens" and had fabulous seats for the early days of "Le Cage Aux Folles". She was a sparking human being the whole time--ready to laugh at any opportunity, as I remember, and a focused converstionalist while we all 6 gathered at meals or in our bathrobes at Leonore's appt. I always heard about her from Leonore and respected her strength to adjust creatively to whatever LIFE was designing for her. I's happy to have met her and cherish the deep friendship she shared with Leonore who is the champion, meastra friend to so many. May she be remembered as a shining star in our lives, which we can "message" any night in the bright lustrous sky. Bon Voyage, dear one; Shalom.
