Joyce Blaylark-Lindsey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 16, 2011.
Joyce Elaine Blaylark-Lindsey was born to Howard and Clara Blaylark May 15, 1956. On December 28, 1985 Joyce was joined in holy matrimony to Nathaniel Lindsey and to that union two children were born. Joyce professed hope in Christ very early in life and joined church at Mt. Zion Baptist Church here in Austin, Texas; Rev. S. A. Davis and later Reverend G. V. Clark. She sang in the youth choir and was a member of Mission II. Joyce's father was called to the ministry and the family moved their membership to Mt. Woodrow Missionary Baptist Church. She served faithfully in the church as a child and throughout her adult life. She and her family later moved their membership to Greater Mt. Zion Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Gaylon Clark. Joyce worked at Texas Instruments and IBM until she decided she wanted to be her own boss. She loved cutting the guys hair in the neighborhood and just knew that being a barber was what she wanted to do so she attended barber school here in Austin and upon graduation her career took flight. On February 16, 2011, the Lord called her home from labor to reward to be with Him. Joyce lost a courageous battle with cancer but the victory is the Lord's. Joyce was preceded in death by her loving parents Howard and Clara Blaylark as well as her youngest sister Giselle Blaylark-Gipson. Joyce leaves an abundance of fond memories to be cherished by her husband Nathaniel Lindsey, daughter Ashley Elizabeth Lindsey and son Justin H. T. Lindsey; two brothers, Howard Eugene Blaylark (Delores) of Austin, Texas; Melvin James Blaylark (Dometric) of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Diana Faye Brooks (William) of Austin, Texas and Jacqueline Elizabeth Center (Herbert) of Austin, Texas. Joyce loved her nieces and nephews: Falisha, Candace, Leslie, De'Shawna, Kevin, Traci, Michael, Stephan, Jarrod and Phillip. She has Aunts and Uncles: Minnie Fowler (Warren - deceased), Kathryn Benford (Woody - deceased), Juanita Smith (Jimmy), Alvin Washington (Barbara) Barbara N. Washington (Lorenzo – deceased), Raymond Washington (Maxine), and Benny Washington (Selma) along with a host of relatives and friends.
