Joyce Eliason Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 22, 2018.
JOYCE STILLMAN ELIASON
1934-2018
"Mrs. Eliason"

Joyce was born on February 23, 1934 as a child of Tilden Barr and Lydia Osguthorpe Stillman, entering this world with her twin sister Jeane. She was raised in East Millcreek Utah, where she and her other siblings formed an eternal bond.
She attended Granite High School where she made many lifelong friends. She enjoyed spending time on the family's Weber ranch located in Summit County, Utah. Joyce earned her Elementary Education degree from the University of Utah. She spent many years skillfully instructing children using positive reinforcement teaching techniques. She was honored to receive the Excel Teaching Award from the Granite Education Foundation. Those who were blessed to have her as a teacher will remember her positive influence on their lives.
On June 12, 1959 she was married in the Salt Lake temple to her eternal companion, Max Dean Eliason. They created a beautiful life for themselves, their posterity, and all those around them. They shared 58 wonderful years filled with family outings, fun vacations, and together have made the world a better place. Their special love has been an example of how to treat one another.
Joyce knew how to plan a fabulous party and she helped bring her family together with kindness and love. She was a world class knitter, a creative problem-solver, and lived her motto, "When I rest I rust." Joyce loved the Gospel and her Savior. After she retired from teaching she served as a tour guide on Temple Square. She treasured this chapter in her life.

Joyce is survived by her husband Max, their three children Mark (Laurie), Lisa (Bryan) Stephens, and Brett, 11 grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and her siblings Jeane (Glen) Smith, Larry (Liane) Stillman, Shonnie (Larry) Hays, and Michele Gaetz.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit the family on Monday May 28, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and prior to the services on Tuesday May 29 from 9:30 until 10:45 at the LDS church located at 4409 S Albright Drive in Holladay, Utah. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at the same location. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Cemetery.
Thanks to all of Joyce's relatives and friends who have done so much to enrich her life. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to The Huntsman Cancer Institute. They provide wonderful services. Special thanks to Dr. Wallace Akerley and his team for the extraordinary professional care given to Joyce.

I AM THE ONLY SISTER OF MAX... AND I WAS SO HAPPY WHEN HE PULLED INTO OUR DRIVEWAY IN LOGAN UTAH WITH A WOMAN IN A RED AND WHITE FORD. SHE WAS THE ONLY ONE FOR HIM! I SAW HOW MUCH
THEY LOVED EACH OTHER. I DO HAVE FAITH THAT THEY WILL BE FOREVER IN LOVE IN HEAVEN.

I remember Max pulling into our parents driveway in Logan. He had a red and white Ford and .. a big smile on his face. He could not take his eyes of Joyce! It was the beginning of another family. I know that they will be united in heaven. She was I great role model for me....but I know they will be together for eternity.

Dear Eliason Family,
I learned of Joyce's passing several days after the fact. So many memories of our childhood in East Mill Creek! Her friendship, along with her sister Jean, was much sought after. Though we have not seen much of each other through the intervening years, the memories remain priceless. May God bless you in a continuing celebration of her loving life.

I just noticed Joyce's obituary, as I have not read the paper for a few days. I'm sorry I did not notice sooner, as I would have loved to have attended her viewing and/or funeral. Sister Eliason was my Primary teacher. I still remember a project with salt dough she did with us. Also, Mark was my age and I remember time Joyce spent with our school classes as she supported Mark. You moved away when Mark and I were about 12, but I have never forgotten your family. Best wishes to you all as you mourn Joyce's loss!

Mom called me this morning to let me know the news, and I am just heartbroken. I was lucky enough to have Mrs. Eliason for both second and third grade at Oakridge and just loved her. My son was lucky enough to have her sub his class several times at Oakridge and he loved her just as much. Any time we ever drove past Trolley Square, I always made my parents stop so I could run in and see if she was at the shop helped with. She will be greatly missed..

During 1959, Miss Stillman was my 4th Grade teacher at McKinley Elementary ( 1864 South State Street) in Salt Lake City. I remember her with fondness and admired her extra efforts in our behalf. I attended her wedding reception that summer and still have the hand-written invitation that she gave me at the end of our school year.
