I will never forget the first time I met Mrs. Fleenor; it was just the pass year. I volunteered at the school, my daughter Angel was in her class. I had just began my first year towards my teaching degree. She sat in the 5th grade lounge with me for a good ten minutes about teaching. I will never forget how I felt when she left the lounge. I thought, wow... I hope that when I become a teacher I love it as much as she does! She has given me the inspiration to be nothing but great.

One other thing I won't forget is seeing her the last time at the 5th grade ceremony. I cried as she was given a standing ovation, which was well deserved. I made a point to go to her classroom and see her, I am glad I did. My daughter and I hugged her and told her in October we were going to walk in her name. She looked at us and said thank-you, that would mean so much!

So, Mrs. Fleenor I look forward to walking in your honor in October; you were such a wonderful woman and I didn't even know you for any length of time. However, you have fully touch my heart and inspired me. I hope I am half the teacher you were!

Love,

Tara and Angel

Jessica and Family,
May God bring you peace during this time. You're right, her smile was outstanding when I would catch you standing at the table waiting on her and your dad and she could do nothing but smile at you.
Bless you all.

To The Family and Friends Of Mrs Joyce Fleenor,

I was so sadden to hear that Mrs Fleenor had passed away. I had no idea that she had been sick. She was my son Brandon Moore's 5th grade teacher and he is going into the 8th this year. My daughter was in the school she taught this pass year and I stop by the class to speak to her but she was in the middle of talking to another parent so I was unable to speak to her. I just wanted to tell you all how sorry I am for your loss. She was such a truly wonderful person and she will be missed by so many. My prayers are with her family and friends.

I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Fleenor for the past two years at Lewis and Clark Elementary. During this time, she was never anything but polite, welcoming, and kind to me. We always joked that we worked on different sides of the world--her in 5th and me in pre-k. Despite this distance, we were able to build a great friendship over the two years. I always valued her input, wisdom, and humor in all that she did.
I loved to just talk with her. I will never forget, June a year ago, at our end of the year luncheon at the Golden Corral. She stayed a good two hours after the last staff member left just talking to me and my sister Melissa. Our conversations were so natural--it was like we had known each other for years. We discussed all of her loves--family, teaching, flower gardening, and the beach.
As her health got worse and she was at school less and less, we continued our conversations through email. I always looked forward to hearing back from her, no matter if we were just discussing the importance of keeping our plants watered in this hot, dry summer.
I will never forget the last times that I saw her. Despite being weak, she made a point to come down to my classroom on her last two visits to Lewis and Clark for the 5th grade promotion and the last teacher work day. On the very last day at Lewis and Clark, she passed on a part of herself to me---she gave me a beautiful jar of her precious sea shells. These shells will forever represent to me her love of life and her unwavering faith that life goes on and everything will be alright. I feel very fortunate to call Mrs. Joyce Fleenor an inspiration, a coworker, and most importantly MY FRIEND! May you always have peace in knowing that she lived her life to the fullest and brought so much joy to all that she encountered. Mrs. Fleenor--may you rest in peace as you listen to the ocean's waves slap the shore line and smell your flowers blooming at heaven's gates.

I was shocked to see that Joyce had passed. I'm sorry to say I had no idea she was sick. Joyce and I went to Gloucester High together and were great friends! We spent a lot of time together during those years. If you look in the yearbook, one of the things I was known for was "fighting with Fields in the Pub", but we didn't fight, we were both layout editors of the yearbook and were working hard on our senior book. I also remember fondly Joyce and I painting the three wise men on the windows of Davis' Furniture store - we won the contest! I think we each won $10, but we were excited. She was just such a funny and sweet person and had so many friends in school. I am sorry we had lost touch over the years. God Bless her and her family. You are all in my prayers.

With the lost of my Aunt my happiness has become nowhere seen. It is diffcult not to have someone to talk to about some shells I would find on the beach. I remember when she taught me how to read and gave me a series of Biscuit to practice reading. When I was in first grade she gave me practice books and I remember sitting there and doing them and she would correct them. Finally, I remember how when I would pull my bangs back people would compare me to her. Love, Amanda

I was very sad to hear of Joyce's passing. Kyle and Greg wrestled at Midlothian High School together, we spent a lot of time together watching them and working in the concession stand, she was very proud of her children and loved them very much.

To the Family of Mrs. Fleenor,

I am saddened to hear of Mrs. Fleenor's passing. She was my fifth grade teacher many years ago. She was my favorite teacher. She was a delight and always encouraging. I truly felt that she wanted each of us to succeed and do well. She was a great inspiration to me and my fellow classmates. Please know she will be greatly missed.

Jerome and the rest of the family of Joyce. We were only in her company once but she made a wonderful impression on us. She was like a ray of sunshine that day at the cookout.
So sorry for your loss but cherish those good memories, first and foremost. Hugs, Ginnie and Ron VMA

To Joyce's Family and Friends,

I taught with Joyce at Ladysmith Elementary during my first four years of teaching. She definitely had "spunk" and love for her friends and students. Her soul rests, and when you need her guidance just look up, she will be there to help you. Her strong sense of pride and dedication to you will never leave your side.
