Joyce R. Montgomery, 78, Grand Forks, ND died Saturday, March 19, 2005 in Altru Hospital of Grand Forks, ND. Joyce Marjorie Roen was born November 2, 1926 in Thorhult, MN the daughter of Ole and Sandra (Bergerson) Roen. She was raised and educated at Thorhult and graduated from high school at Thief River Falls, MN. Joyce graduated from Bemidji Teachers College then taught school at Fisher, MN. She married James T. Montgomery on October 13, 1951 in Thief River Falls. They lived in Grand Forks where Joyce helped in the family business, Montgomery Airspray, by loading spray planes, flagging farm fields and bookkeeping for the company. James Montgomery died March 23, 1977. Joyce was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Grand Forks. She served as assistant of the Sunday School Program. Joyce was a member of the Elks Auxiliary and treasurer for ten years. Survivors include her daughters, Sandy (Brad) Gerszewski, Grand Forks, and Sue (Bob) Martinez, Chandler, AZ; son, Robert ""Monty' (Nancy Greenwood) Montgomery, Grand Forks; Ashley Mere, daughter of Nancy Greenwood; sister, Helen Knutson, Grygla, MN; sisters-in-law; Ardell Roen and June Newhouse both of Grygla, MN; several nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by brothers, Willard, Russell and Philip. A Memorial Reception will be held from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2005 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service in Amundson Funeral Home of Grand Forks. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Altru Cancer Center or The Circle of Friends Humane Society of Grand Forks.
