SMITH, Joyce P.
Joyce was born on January 9, 1923 and passed away on August 6, 2012. She was predeceased by her parents Charlie and Susie James and her brothers Harry James and Gordon James. She is survived by her husband of 66 yrs/10 mos, John R. Smith, children; Cheryl (Maurice) Servant of Sylvan Lake, AB, Gary (Marlene) Smith of Calgary, AB, Tracy Smith also of Calgary and Lorisa (Terry) Ganes of Birch Hills, SK, grandchildren; Shane, Rachel, Kyla, Christopher, Tim, Micheal, and Kristie, also great-grandchildren; Hailey, Alyssa, Jaymin, Alexys, Nathanial, Kailyn, Carsen, Shelby, Brandi, Kaleb, Brody and Kira, plus past and present friends in Moose Jaw, La Ronge and Parksville. Joyce moved with her husband and family from Moose Jaw to La Ronge in the summer of 1960. La Ronge and friends became the centre of their life for the next 35 years. Joyce was one of the founding members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the La Ronge Branch 371 of the Royal Canadian Legion. She was one of only a few women to have received a 50 year Legion membership award. Joyce had several careers while living in La Ronge, the last being with the Federal Government. In 1995 she followed her husband to British Columbia and they settled in Parksville. She loved playing the piano and playing golf and was also an avid gardener. She was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army food bank and the Ladies Legion Auxiliary. Her husband John was the centre of her life and he was with her at Trillium Lodge when she passed. She will be missed by her husband, children and grandchildren. Interment took place at Yates Cemetery on August 10, 2012 at 3:00 PM. Donations in Joyce's memory may be sent to the Alzheimer's Society. Gone but not forgotten.
