Joyce Snelling Grubbs

Joyce Snelling Grubbs (89)-a long-time piano teacher in Goddard, Kansas-died on March 31, 2023 in Conroe, Texas. She was born on July 11, 1933 in Caldwell, Kansas to Chester and Permelia Hodges, and grew up on their farm near Medford, Oklahoma. She was a graduate of Medford High School, and earned a degree in music at Anderson College (Indiana) in 1955. Joyce married Sylvan ("Bud") Snelling in 1953. Following their marriage, she resided in Oklahoma, Washington state, and then Goddard, Kansas where, from 1975, she taught piano and voice at her home on Brazos Drive for over three decades.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents Chester and Permelia Hodges; her brother Jene; former husband Sylvan ("Bud") Snelling (d. 2007) and husband Capt. Dale Grubbs (d. 2019). She is survived by her sons Michael (Carla) Schnelling of Katy, Texas and Brad (Leslie Dollen) Snelling of Duluth, Minnesota; beloved grandsons Samuel and Isaac Schnelling (Oxford, England) and their mother-Joyce's dearest friend-Kate Schnelling (Oxford, England).

Joyce will be deeply missed by her family and fondly remembered by the hundreds of students who came to her home for their weekly lessons with "Mrs. Snelling."

The family is profoundly grateful to Cristian Striblea, Marla Dunlap, Susan Hawkins and Mona Maduta for the love, care and comfort they brought to Joyce during her last years in Spring and Conroe, Texas.

Joyce will be buried near her parents and ancestors at the Caldwell City Cemetery in Kansas. There will be a memorial recital in her honor in Wichita during the coming year.
