Joyce Wideman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 6, 2010.
Services to celebrate the loving memory of Joyce Jardon Wideman of Tyler will be held at noon Wednes-day, April 7, 2010, at New Life Community Church in Tyler.

Joyce charmed her way into many hearts beginning May 20, 1923. She charmed her way into the arms of the Master on April 1, 2010.

Joyce was the first-born child of the late Freeman and Bell Mae Jones Jardon. She was the last surviving of siblings Freeman Jr., Cath-erine, Dorothy, Minnie Pearl, Geneva Jardon and Arizona Hendricks Johnson.

Joyce married Char-lie W. Wideman (C.W.) in 1945. They became the proud parents of four children, Charlie Ray, Dorothy Faye, Ronald Wayne and Stevy Don. The family circle was broken with the death of her oldest son, Charlie Ray, in 1970; with the death of her youngest son, Stevy Don, in 1987; with the death of her husband, C.W., in 1991; and with the death of her granddaughter, Chelene Wideman, in 2005.

Joyce attended the Tyler public schools and Sweatt's Beauty College. Even when it was unfashionable, she worked outside the home, and pursued entrepreneurial ventures. She was employed by Imperial American Corp., The Clairmont Tyler and East Texas Medical Center, nee Medical Center Hospital. She also worked as a licensed cosmetologist and spent countless years providing home health services. She and her husband operated John Williams Barbeque, Porters Café and Wideman & Sons Asphalt Paving Co. Joyce had a passion for purchasing and wearing elegant and uniquely designed hats, which she wore with "hat a tude," photography, traveling and baking delicious cakes.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Dorothy and son-in-law Raymond Davis; son, Ronald Wideman; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Wideman; grandchildren, Regina Wilson, Chantele Wideman, Nicole Williams, Shanita Wideman-Walker and Chad Wideman; great-grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Reginald Harris, Adrienne McGee, Kennedy Griffin, Keith Harrell Jr., Chalyse Perry, Llewellyn Wickware, Jaelon Wickware, Jardon Wideman, Landon Wilkerson; special friend, Henry Hart; and devoted nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends during a musical wake on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Brooks-Sterling & Garrett Funeral Directors at 302 N. Ross Ave., Tyler. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park, Tyler.

To Dorothy and the entire Wideman Family,
Please accept my heart-felt condolences. I know your hearts are saddened by this great loss. Ms. Wideman was truly a woman of dignity and class. I had the priviledge of viewing her 'hat collection" what style!!! But most importantly I experienced her warm hospitality, her youthful demeanor and her sweet spirit, she was truly a gift from God.

Dorothy, as I said to you a few days ago, "If prayers could have kept Ms. Wideman here, she'd still be with us." But she declared months ago she was ready to go. God simply gave you a few months to enjoy her wit, her courage and her love.

You are so bless to have had a wonderful mother and friend.

Love you and praying for your family

Dorothy,
I am sorry for your loss. I didn't know your mom, but I knew you from your time here at the MPSC. She raised a wonderful daughter, so she must have been a wonderful person herself.
Kindest regards,

Ron, Dorothy and Raymond,
The light of your Mom, "Joyce" will forever shine and glow in the eyes of her family and of the many people who loved her. I always admired her smile, and loved being in her presence.
Dorothy, you are one of the best daughters any mother would want. I know Joyce is smiling down at you today, tomorrow, forever. We pray everyday for you and family. Hope to be with you soon.

Love you,

April 8, 2010

"Aunt Fay,"
It didn't take long for us to come to know your mother as "Momma Joyce," as she provide love, advice, guidance, etc., as any good momma would. She changed all of our lives...for the better. Robert & Marcia Ford & KJ

Dorothy,
As I indicated to you earlier, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. "Ms. Joyce", as I loved to call her, was one classy lady with the most beautiful hats. Treasure the memories of the wonderful times that you spent together. We know you loved her but God loved her too. Now He has given her eternal rest...no more pain, just His eternal peace. Lean on Him and He will order your steps as He comforts you.

Dear Dorothy:

Mom will always be special in my heart and memories. The unspeakable hospitality she showered upon me when I visited the two of you in Tyler. She took me everywhere and anywhere in Tyler to look at condos. I was like a little kid in a candy store as she showed me her hat collection and how her shoes matched. STYLE and ELEGANCE, as well as her kindness to serve others is what I will remember the most. I will always love her as I do you. My favorite picture of Mom is the one of her in the red hat. My warmest blessings and prayers for your next journey my friend.

To Chantele & Kieth & the rest of the family....I loved Mrs. WIdeman's spirit and her charm. She was an amazing lady. My thoughts are with you during this time. Having just laid daddy to rest, I could not take attending another funeral...I just wanted to reiterate that she was loved by so many. There will never be another like her and now she is in that great cloud of witnesses. May God's peace see you through this most difficult time.
