Judith Day Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 8 to Dec. 1, 2022.
North Hampton, NH - Judith Elizabeth Day, 73, of North Hampton, passed peacefully Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. She was born in Salem, MA, December 26, 1948 the daughter of the late Robert and Esther (Donovan) Day.

While a kindergartner, her family moved to Falmouth, ME where she attended Pine Grove elementary and Falmouth High School, graduating in 1966. She received her bachelor's from the University of New Hampshire in 1970 and her doctorate in special education in 1994, also from UNH.

She taught special education at the former Marston School in Portsmouth as well as North Hampton and Rye Elementary schools. She retired from Leslie College in 2006 after many years teaching practicing teachers in special education.

She made her home in North Hampton from 1990, moving from Eliot, ME. Judy was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 2006 and 2008 serving Rockingham County District 22. She served on successful 3 presidential campaigns.

Judy had a genuine interest in justice and peace for people, animals and our land. For the Town of North Hampton, she was a coauthor of warrant articles for an elected Planning Board, an elected Zoning Board and a 100-foot wetlands setback protection ordinance; all passed by the voters. She served on 3 Municipal Building committees and a Town Charrette. She was elected to Planning Board and Library Board of Trustees.

Judy was the author of a children's book, The Good Wizard's Castle, illustrated by Alan Eves. She was a creative artist and lover of music and theater. Judy had a unique and admirable way of looking at life, a kind soul with a gentle manner and contagious laugh.

She leaves her husband with whom she shared 46 years of marriage, R. Laurence "Larry" Miller of North Hampton and her brother Thomas Day and his wife Beth of Guilford. Her dogs, Spirit and Dickon and her cats, Bella and Sky will miss her too.

Judy wished to acknowledge her longtime friends, Mary Clarity of Alexandria, VA, Margaret Delano of Falmouth, ME, the late Jane Palmer, Jane Boesch, Nancy Monaghan and Lisa Wilson all of North Hampton.

I was fortunate to be a classmate of Judy's from Kindergarten to our high school graduation. She was sweet, kind and smart and fun to to be with. Later we enjoyed a few seaside lunches and it always nice to share time with her. Rest in Peace, my friend. You are missed.

Judy. Your service on our behalf was thoughtful and caring, the town of North Hampton and the State of NH are at a loss without your wisdom. And, your generous spirit towards the artists in the community, considering our gifts most important in life, gave me encouragement and reason to keep at it. You were an inspiration. You are loved. Peace.

Judy was a dear colleague during her (our) `reign of terror´ at the Statehouse. She had a great sense of humor (which one really needed most days, as you might remember). I am so very sorry for your loss, Larry, and send all my condolences. Rest In Peace, Judy, you were a warrior.
