Judith Ernst Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 21, 2025.
Redondo Beach - Judith Ann Ernst, 81, passed away unexpectedly on October 4, 2025, at her home in Redondo Beach. Judith was a lifelong South Bay resident, born on December 20, 1943, in Manhattan Beach, California. She graduated from Mira Costa High School in 1961 and went on to attend UCLA.

Judy, as she was affectionately known, will be remembered for her passion and knowledge of education. At just twenty-four years old, she founded the Montessori School of Manhattan Beach in 1968 - a remarkable achievement for a woman in business at that time. Starting with twelve students, including her three children, Judy created a place where curiosity and kindness could flourish. Her pioneering spirit and devotion to the Montessori method will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Judy lived life with confidence and curiosity. Whether she was free-diving with her husband, John, or pushing the bounds of fashion, Judy never shied away from a little risk. Known for her elegant, classic style, she was always dressed to the nines! Judy also came to love tennis and frequently played in tournaments with John and her son Jeff. Her passion for the sport never waned, and she continued to play through her final years. Judy's energy, style, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed.

Judy is survived and dearly missed by her loving husband of 45 years, John Ernst; her children, Jeff, Greg, Lynn, Darlyn and Leila, and her 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ardith and Herral Jones; daughter Nadine; a grandson and a great-grandson.

Judy's life was a testament to courage, curiosity, and compassion. Her legacy will continue to guide those she touched.

The celebration of life will be held on November 22nd.
