Judith Lynn Lopez

April 11, 1962 - October 22, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judith Lynn (Judy) Lopez, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend, who left this world peacefully on October 22, 2024. Judy was born on April 11, 1962, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Shirley and Ramon Lopez.

Judy's ambition and dedication were unparalleled. From a young age, she dreamed of soaring through the skies and although Judy was a talented high-end hairstylist in her early years, known for her creativity and precision, she later shifted her focus to her true passion for flying, where she found her greatest sense of freedom and fulfillment. She pursued that dream with unmatched determination, earning her private pilot's license-a proud achievement that marked the beginning of a new chapter in her life. After obtaining her license, Judy followed her passion for aviation and moved to the Dallas, Texas area to fully embrace her love of flying. She spent many years in Texas, building a career that allowed her to combine her professional expertise with her love of adventure.

Though flying planes defined much of her professional life, Judy also maintained a deep love for her son. She was a devoted mother to Jacob, raising him with the same strength and determination she brought to all aspects of her life.

Judy had a deep love for animals, especially her cherished dogs, who were constant companions throughout her life. She had a gentle way with all creatures, often rescuing and caring for stray or rescued animals, and her home was always filled with the warmth and joy that her pets brought her.

Judy's faith was the foundation of her life. She carried a deep and abiding belief in God's love and guidance, which gave her strength through all of life's challenges. Her faith was not just something she practiced privately; it radiated in everything she did. Whether it was in her work, her relationships, or her pursuit of her lifelong dream of flying, Judy's belief in a higher purpose fueled her perseverance.

Judy is survived by her son, Jacob Qualls, her brother Raymond Lopez Jr., her sisters Lori (Juan) Colon, Debra (Lory) Charney-Lopez, her very close cousin, Bill Eveline and her many nephews and nieces and great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ramon R. Lopez and Shirley E. Lopez and her nephew, Robert J. Colon.

Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. Judith's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the healthcare professionals at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Grapevine, Texas who cared for her in her final days, and to all those who supported them during this difficult time.

At Judy's request, there will be no formal service. Instead, her family encourages those who wish to honor her memory to take a moment to celebrate the things that Judy loved-her passion for flying, her devotion to her faith, and her love for animals and children. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org), a cause that was very close to Judy's heart.

Judy's wings may now be at rest, but her spirit will forever soar in the hearts of those who loved her.

I found out last night from your son, you passed, and it was the most devastating news. We met in our 20s, lived together, and became best of friends. When you lived with me in Beach Park, that is when you were going through flight training. We traveled together (Jamacia) and went to lunch when you got your pilot's license in a Cessna. You moved to Texas, and I came to stay with you for almost a year. (I was scared that day, but had fun). It ripped my heart out when I heard you had been trying to reach me but could not remember my number. RIP, my sweet friend, I will miss you. I would have been there for you if I only knew. Sharing a few old memories.

I only knew Judy for a short time but in our short friendship we were in touch almost daily. We discussed diet, holistic health care & much more. I convinced her to start walking in her last months of which she learned to love. She and I both had a wicked sense of humor, and we had some hilarious laughing jags. We were both animal lovers and we loved our children passionately. We were both very passionate about the aviation industry also.
I was there for her journey in her last year and a half of life. I didn´t find out about her passing until over a month later. I am very saddened by her passing. She and I had a special friendship and I am glad that I knew her for the short time that I did.
