I am sad to hear of Judy's passing... She was a candid soul, a great teacher in life, and an amazing colleague. She will be sorely missed, but her tireless work will continue the shape of sustainability research for many years to come.

Judy Patterson was an accomplished and dedicated scholar who was not content to toil within the boundaries set by others. Judy left her mark on the world of environmental and transportation research, and will be remembered as a capable and diligent scholar who never gave up in the search for ways to help reconcile human society with the geological and climatological realities that ultimately govern our fate. Judy always believed that a better world could arrive through the pursuit of science, and that it was a scientist's responsibility to help shape that future. Her spirit will inspire many, including myself, in the years ahead.

Judy was my mentor, my colleague, my ally, and my friend. I will always hold her in my heart. I want to thank all the people who took care of her in her last few months. I'm glad she had such good friends.

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy; I am so sorry for your great loss. May the God who "binds up the broken-hearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this difficult time. Isaiah 61:1,2.

Judith Patterson came into my office about 10 years ago. She was a bright and cheerful person whose paperwork was always well organized which made it such a pleasure to work on. I'm sure she is now in a better place, free of pain.

Very sad news. Judy worked with me north of the Back River in the summer of 1982. And yes, she took her dog along.

I only had the opportunity to meet Judy twice, but was struck by her sense of humor and the warmth of her smile. Mostly i've come to know her through her friends who are also mine. I wish I had known her better. Enjoy your new adventure Judy. I bet you'd have great stories to tell.

Judith was a life force and a smile filled soul that was always there. We, Yair, Naomi and Jonathan Behar, will miss her optimism as she was our beloved mother, Carolyn, most cherished friend. Our deepest condolences to her parents and her entire family. We share in your great sadness.

We will miss you so terribly, but at least have the consolation that you are free from pain and reunited with Jamie, King and other devoted 4- and 2-footed friends including a distinguished gathering of Wednesday Nighters who will welcome your knowledgeable and witty interventions.
You will always be in our hearts and minds' ear.

Dearest Judy
Yvan and I worked very hard on poop compost with you and you made it a great success. We were proud to be involved with you. Ulysse worked on it too but mostly contributed to the poop part of the project. In 2005, despite both of us being single, we met the men of our dreams. We both got married, you in 2009, us in 2012. From now on, every time I'll see dog poop, we will think of you! We are sure that you are in heaven finally reunited with Jaime. You will be missed. Love
Sylvie, Yvan & Ulysse xxx

It was a shock to learn of Judy's passing. It doesn't seem that long ago when she was a young colleague of mine at the University of Toronto in Mississauga, where her sunny personality brightened the daily lives of those of us in the Earth and Planetary Science discipline.
