On the evening of October 30, 2015, Judy passed away at Silverado Aspen Park Care Center in Salt Lake City, UT as a result of years of dementia. Judy was 81 years old.
Judy was born to Frederick Engle and Louise C Bowman Engle on June 14, 1934 in Salt Lake City, UT. She graduated from East High School and attended University of Utah and earned a Bachelor's degree. She went on to earn a Master's degree in Philosophy. She was a member of PHIBetaKappa. Judy married Verne A Peterson and had two wonderful sons. She was later divorced. She went back to school and received a Paralegal degree at Westminster College.
Judy was a member of PEO. Judy loved to visit Southern Utah. She drove to Capital Reef often during the 1980's and early 1990's. Judy was intrigued with and learned about Native American history. Everyone knew how much she loved animals, especially her dogs.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-husband, Verne A Peterson; her dog Elizabeth Ann. Judy is survived by two sons John E Peterson and Dave E Peterson; John's wife, Paige D Peterson; two grandchildren, Stephani S Peterson and Carter J Peterson; Judy's companion dog, Samantha Ann.
Since Judy has donated her remains to the University of Utah, there will be no service. Any donations can be given to the Alzheimer's Assocation.

I am very saddened to have lost Judy. I lost email contact contact with around that time ..still wondering and hoping to reconnect, I googled her this morning. Judy and I grew up together more or less as brother and sister until my family moved to San Francisco in 1946. We stayed in contact over the years sharing stories of our childhood, ....like the time I lost my new "Ration Stamp" shoes in the creek behind her childhood home on Diestel Rd....and our subsequent trials and tribulations. Reading her obit brought back many ancient memories. I would like to reconnect via John or David. We met on a visit to Salt Lake a long time ago. I have lost a very close friend!!

I just found out about Judy's passing. This is Cindy Draper, a good friend of Judy's when she worked at the state. In fact, I stayed with Judy for a few months when I was between apartments. I met the whole family and loved Judy. Karen and I used to bring Daisy Mae to visit and she would play with Lizzy and hunt the cat. I enjoyed spending time with Judy and will miss her very much. I am sorry for your loss.

I just heard about Judy's passing. I realize how late this is but I send sincere condolences. I knew Judy when she worked in Old Deseret at This is the Place State Park. She was a friend that is missed.

Our love to John and Dave and the family Judy so adored. Judy was godmother to our youngest daughter where they shared interest in 'the secret language of snow'.

Dear Family,
I worked with Judy at the State many years ago. We enjoyed talking about dogs and laughing. She had a huge heart and I have always wondered where she was.

May God Bless you all.

It was an honor and privilege to have know Judy. Many a wonderful time was shared at Eastwood PTA activities. She gave numerous hours of reading pleasure through the Great Books program teaching students the love of adventure and knowledge in books. Her loving spirit will live in all that know her. I express my deepest condolences to all her family.
