Judy Fletcher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 13, 2025.
Judy Kaye Fletcher passed away on May 30, 2025 after an extended battle with heart failure complications. She left her family with a strong legacy of faith, kindness and family values.

Judy was born on August 12, 1941 in Bristol, TN to the parents of Oscar Ely and Goldie Hensley. She attended ETSU, where she graduated with honors in Music Education. While at ETSU, she was Vice President of Sigma Kappa Sorority, President of Delta Omicron Music Honors Fraternity, and a Member of the ROTC Sponsor Corps and is listed as a Who's Who among students in American Colleges and Universities. She went on to work as a music teacher in several schools.

In most recent years, her passion was volunteering for Hospice and working with her therapy dog, Katie. Teaching preschool, playing handbells and singing in the church choir were highlights of her life, and she also enjoyed dancing with her beloved Star Strutters dance group.

Judy is survived by her husband of 63 years, John Fletcher, son, John Fletcher, Jr., daughter-in-law, Anita Allen, daughter, Janet Pretsch, son-in-law, Roger Pretsch, and her grandchildren, Peyton and Dennis Coe, Wesley Pretsch, and Jillian Pretsch.

She was so proud of her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Nana," and she was truly loved by all.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at Soapstone United Methodist Church on August 2nd at 10:00 AM.

I just today found out that Judy died. I am devastated. I wish her family the best as I'm sure you feel the same. Judy and I were in the Star Strutters dance group together and she and I stood next to one another most of the time as we were tallest. Here's a picture of Joanne, Me, Judy and Dee at Dee's birthday lunch. We had canceled our lunches for the summer or I may have found out sooner about Judy.

So sorry to hear this news. Our hearts go out to John and her family. They were the best neighbors when we lived in Wood Valley. She just had come to mind and thought I had not seen any posts from her on FB in recent months. Now sadly I know why.

So sorry to hear of Judy's death. We played handbells together at North Raleigh United Nethodist church. Recently we have moved to Bristol, VA and I remembered that she grew up here, although in TN. Shje was a delightful friend and my prayers go out to all her friends and family members. Cary Peterson

We both have our green hat love and memories over many years. May we all be together in the future. May the guys play free golf and we can go shopping together free and don´t have to launder our clothes
