Judy Horner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 9, 2016.
Lakeland — Judith Ann Horner (Cain), a long-time resident of the Lakeland area, died Friday the 9th of December at Valencia Hills Health and Rehabilitative Healthcare Center from advanced stage COPD. Born in 1941 in Delaware, Ohio, Judy received a diploma from Willis High School in 1959. After graduation, she worked at a local phone company and then moved to Columbus, Ohio after marrying Marvin Horner. In 1971, she moved to Florida and was a stay at home mom during the 70's and early 80's, working part-time as an Avon representative. In a career shift, she took a position as a retail associate at Kmart when her children were older, and then moved on to JoAnn Fabrics, where she worked until her retirement. Judy enjoyed gardening and was a natural at growing vegetables and flowers. She was an excellent seamstress and over the years sewed many dolls, clothes, prom dresses and quilts for family and friends alike. She enjoyed crafts, being outdoors, and cooking. She was an avid reader and taught her children to love reading as much as she did. She led 4-H club, raised animals and liked to try new things. She always maintained a positive outlook on her circumstances and the world around her. Judy was musical and enjoyed singing and playing the organ, and she was an active band parent at Kathleen Junior High School for all of her children. She was known to be a friend to all, and carried herself with decorum and respect. Though she enjoyed her time alone and her solitude, she deeply and dearly loved her family and showed it each time she was around them. She is preceded in death by parents, Everett Stanley Cain and Clara Clarinda Cain (Johnston) of Delaware, Ohio. She is survived by her three daughters, Melissa Rogers and Jackie Lynn, both of Lakeland, Florida; Jennifer Cason, (Donald) of Franklin, Tennessee; and her three sisters, Pat Koedyker (Rich) of Carol Stream, Illinois; Sharon Rigelsky (Steve) of Brandywine, Maryland and Vicki Haas (Barry) of Woodbridge, Virginia. Judy is also survived by 9 grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Nana." They are: Darbie, Sam, Emi and Rylee Lynn, and Libbi and Laini Rogers, all of Lakeland Florida; and Nathan, Noah and Zachary Cason of Franklin, Tennessee. Her family brought great joy to her life. A Memorial service will be held for Judy at 6:00 pm on the 27th of December, 2016 at Centerpoint Church, 805 E Palmetto St., Lakeland, Florida 33801. Condolences for the family can be left at casketstore.net. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made at one of the organizations to the right.

Judy has been on my mind for years and sadly I learned of her passing this morning. We go back to 1990ish, our Kmart days. We had MANY laughs there and we'd carry them right down the road with the other girls to the Foxfire after work sometimes. From there we stayed friends and in contact and even met out at our friend Cindy's house or Sundowners for cocktails some weekends. But, life takes us all in different directions and over the past 12 years or so I only bumped into her a couple times at JoAnn's...always saying "we need to get together!". Unfortunately that never happened, and on my way past her home in Duff rd today I googled her name, to find her gone. With that said I spoke to her and thanked her for her friendship, because even though we lost touch, SHE was truly a friend. I'm sorry this is such a late addition but I wanted her family to know just how FUN their Mom and Grandmom was.....don't worry Judy, no details leaked by me!:))) rest well my friend, with love I'll see you on the other side. And to the readers; call your friends and family, life is shorter than we think.

Judy and I walked together to school almost every day during junior high school. As time passed, I remember noticing she was becoming so beautiful. It's as if one day you turn around and the familiar childhood face has become a beautiful young woman. She remains one of the nicest, prettiest friends in my growing-up years. Joan and Steve said it perfectly, "I am sorry we didn't stay in closer contact."

We were so sorry to hear about Judy. Joan & Judy were probably best friends in high school. We stopped & saw her a couple of times when we went to Florida and were talking about doing it again. I'm sorry we didn't stay in closer contact. We will miss her.
