I taught with Judy at Lane for almost 20 years.Sometimes we would have the same lunch period. Frequently we would discuss something educational while walking through the halls. After retirement we ran into each other at the symphony or a theatre. I'm sorry she died from ALS. A cousin of mine suffered from it and I know that she suffered a great deal.

My first year at Lane Tech was 1965. As I would walk into room 207 for my English class Miss Levin would be walking out heading to her next classroom. Since this happened on a daily basis we would give each other a small nod in passing. Well, as things turned out she would be my English teacher for not only my Sophomore year BUT ALSO my Junior year of high school. Not being a big fan of High School English I didn't do real well in her class. She gave me one bit of advice I still remember even though it is now over 50 years later. She said, "if you could write as well as you speak, you would get an A in my class". I took that advice to heart and tried to write as if I was talking to a friend or speaking in front of the class. Don't know if it helped but I did get a better grade from her in my Junior year. Over 50 years as passed and the only thing I would ever hear about Miss Levin again is that she fought ALS and has passed away. I felt so bad. She was nice, she was fair, and she was professional.
I am so sorry for your loss.

Recalling her mass intellect that she kept
concealed so not to discomfort others. Will
miss her company.
