Sammy Moore Obituary
Sammy "Dwight" Moore, 75, of the Smuteye Community, and a native of the Ewell Community near Ozark, passed away on October 8, 2021. A memorial service is planned for October 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church in Union Springs with Pastor Gene Bridgman and Pastor Cary Maulden (his great-grandson) officiating.
Dwight was born in April of 1946 and was preceded in death by his parents, Ross L. Moore and Bessie Lou Mallory Moore of the Ewell Community; step-daughter Jackie Rotton; five brothers: Tommy Ross, Bobby Wayne (Virginia); two infant brothers lost at birth, and three-month-old brother, Jack; brother-in-law Bill Thrasher; and a beloved niece Nina Thrasher Gore.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years Annette Thorne Moore; four step-children: Lamar (Debbie) Rotton, Wayne Rotton, Pam (Scott) Elmore, and Brad Stamey; two sisters: Jilda Thrasher and Agnes (Don) Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews including his namesake Samantha "Sam" (Shane) Johnson.
Dwight was known for his love of westerns, fishing, big family gatherings and MacGyver-style spirit, as he could fix anything and often took on projects for anyone that asked. Dwight grew up attending Ewell Bible Baptist, but recently found a new home in Christ through Eastside Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and enjoyed doing his part by cutting grass and helping to maintain church grounds. Dwight has always been a hard worker. Whether it was hauling freight, farming, cooking for friends and family, or just lending a hand to someone in need, Dwight was happiest when he was in the middle of the action.
And, although he never had kids of his own, Dwight considered his step-children his own and never treated them as anything else. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren dearly and took great joy helping to raise them and teach them. "Paw Paw" will certainly be missed and made a lasting impression on all of his family and friends.
