Judy Reardon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2022.
Judy Ellen Reardon, 64, of Manchester, NH, well-known political strategist, died December 16, 2022, following a long illness.

Born in Manchester, NH on February 12, 1958, she was the daughter of Patrick and Viola (Vergas) Reardon.

An outstanding student, Judy graduated from Manchester High School Central, Class of 1976, where she was an editor of the award winning Little Green newspaper. She earned a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a degree in law from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Upon returning to Manchester, Judy was an associate at the McLane, Graf, Raulerson and Middleton Law Firm, while simultaneously serving two terms as a state representative. She shortly left for a career in public service, including as an attorney with the New Hampshire Public Defender and as Executive Director of Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. Judy devoted her life to bettering the lives of Granite Staters.

Many Granite State Democratic candidates benefitted from her advice and counsel, as did the New Hampshire Democratic Party, playing a major role in developing the strategies that transformed the state's political color from red to purple. Until her illness, she was a reliable part of the Democratic Party's Voter Protection Program.

Judy spent most of her career working with Senator Jeanne Shaheen. From the New Hampshire State Senate, the Governor's Office and in the U.S. Senate, Judy filled many roles on Senator Shaheen's staff. These were many of her treasured memories.

Her last role was as consultant for Stop the Northern Pass, always working to keep New Hampshire beautiful.

Judy volunteered in the Learn to Read Literacy Program and served as a Manchester Water Works Commission and previously on the Manchester Library Foundation Board.

Most importantly, Judy was a wonderful and loving sister and sister-in-law. Together they traveled to many places around the world, enjoyed going to scary movies, and family events.

Judy is survived by her beloved sister, New Hampshire State Representative Patricia Cornell, and her husband, Rik Cornell; her devoted cat, Huey; and many cousins.

Services: Calling hours are Thursday, December 22, 2022, from 4 to 7 PM at Connor-Healy Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 537 Union Street, Manchester, NH.

Patty and Rick, I am sorry for your loss of Judy. She was quite a gal and I always enjoyed running into her. I am sure your parents would be so proud of you both.
Remembering R&K summer day camp we all attended!
Also, our kids loved to visit “Why” (your mom), as she always gave them “paper money “. The Larkins were still giving quarters!
My thoughts and prayers are with you, try to remember all the good times.

Judy was such a courageous woman, a forward-looking person, and such an advocate for human rights that her legacy will live on. I will have fond remembrance of her frankness, her honesty, and her wit! Presente', Judy Reardon.

Patty and Rik, my deepest sympathies for the loss it brings to both of you. I admired Judy for her depth of knowledge in helping me to run a successful campaign. I will dearly miss our lengthy conversations at her door before putting a lawn sign on her front yard and beginning my voyage to get elected and re-elected to be her State Rep. in Concord.

Patty, In 1968 I began my career in education, teaching 6th grade at Wilson School. I was privileged to have Judy
Reardon as a student that first year. She was articulate, intelligent and all around excellent student. Judy was well liked by her peers and looked up to as a leader by her classmates .I remember her winning one of the top honors in the science fair that year.As the years went by I would see Judy around the ward (Ward 5 ) especially around election day holding a sign for her mom ,who was the incumbent school board member from Ward 5 This was the time when the girls and the boys had their own side of the playground ( the basketball courts were on the boys side ) ..I would use Judy as an example for all my students (especially the female students) as someone who chose her path and was not only successful but was well respected by both democrats & republicans state wide.I am very proud to say I knew Judy and was honored to be one of her teachers .

Patty, I'm saddened to hear that your sister Judy has passed. I have very fond memories of your little sister around the house back in the day. Knowing her as a young girl it doesn't surprise me to read about her extraordinary success. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

What an accomplished and inspirational woman, gone far too soon. I never knew Judy, but I knew Patty in high school. Such a loss to so many. My deepest condolences.

Pat and Rik,
My deepest sympathies. Judy was an incredible woman, as her Mother before her.
She was admired, respected, and loved by so many.
A Sister's love, especially like yours, is indescribable. You have so many memories to fill your hearts.

How incredibly sad to lose Judy, another reminder to appreciate and spend time with those around us while we can. Even though I did not see her as often as I should have in recent years, I thought of her often as she was one of my favorite people. Patty and Rik, I am so sorry

Judy,

I know how much you have accomplished in your amazing life and how many causes you championed for so many people and organizations but to me you will always be that wicked smart friend who was always there for us and simply made us laugh with your cutting wit. We had too many funny memories to count (or share in public LOL) and CHS would not have been the same without you my friend. I am so glad we were also able to share many more fun times since. I know you are watching over us with a chuckle and a smile. Love you forever. Chris (Bannon) McLaughlin

Hanging with Judy as sports editor doing the “paste up” deadline for the Little Green newspaper is always a fond memory. A long time ago but feels like yesterday. She led the crew with determination and wit. Farewell.

Judy was brilliant and blunt. She had a pulse on what made people tick and was incredibly insightful. I learned so much from her and benefited so much from her brutal honesty over the years. At the end of the day, she wanted to make the people and world around her better, and she achieved just that. We are all better people for having known her. I will miss her love for bad sci fi movies and sports, her advice, her sense of humor, her love of animals and so much more. Rest In Peace.
