Judy Sharp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 30, 2024.
Judy LaMartina Sharp passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday May 8, 2024 at the age of 78. She is survived by her husband of 43 years Thomas Allen Sharp, son William (Emily) Kilpatrick, brothers Joey (Angela), Salvador (Shirley), and John (Stephanie) LaMartina, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was born March 30, 1946 in New Orleans to the late Lucy Scaglione LaMartina and John J. LaMartina, Sr.

Judy was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and moved to the Northshore where she built a home and life with her husband, Allen. Judy loved to travel the world to see different places and experience different cultures, but she also loved her home in Mandeville where she made strong friendships and was active in her local community. She loved the outdoors, and you could often find her tending her garden, which flourished with flowers, trees and birds. She also loved to cook and bake for her family and friends where every dish was made with love. Her caring and outgoing personality charmed everyone she met. Her kindness, smile and laughter will be dearly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at the St. Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Rd, St Benedict, LA on Friday, June 21st from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Mass in Judy's memory beginning at 2:00 PM. She will be laid to eternal rest in St. Joseph Cemetery following the Mass. Following the services, we welcome family and friends to join us for a reception at Dakota Restaurant, located at 310 Boston St, Covington, LA 70433.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society.

I first remember Judy from sitting behind her at Mass at Our Lady of the Lake Church and admiring her naturally beautiful hair. Years later, she was at Our Lady of the Lake when I was confirmed as a Catholic and she and Allen gave me beautiful Rosary beads they had purchased while in Vatican City on one of their many memorable trips. Judy and Allen were the reason Mike and I decided to fly to Copenhagen and sail back across the Atlantic - experiencing a Northern Atlantic hurricane while off the coast of Ireland. Our friendship was sealed after spending those 3 weeks together. Judy was a very smart lady and constantly amazed me with the level of details she recalled from their many trips. I still regret not taking that trip to Egypt with them. Mike and I were always excited when we received an invitation to dine with the Sharps. We always knew the food and company would be wonderful. Her meatballs and spaghetti, Chicken Piccata, her frittata, and especially for Mike - Crab Rangoon and an ice cream birthday cake. Oh, and her Italian cookies! Everything was delicious! And I loved hearing about her childhood in the French Quarter and the time she met Elvis - and had her picture taken with him. Judy was a generous, kind, lovely, and loving lady who was great fun to be around. We miss her so and always will. Billy, she was so proud of you and loved you so much, as well as her brothers, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and of course Allen and his granddaughter and family. And Dixie was a blessing for her in the last stages of her life. Rest in peace, our dear friend.

I remember meeting Judy when I first went to work at Traveler's Insurance . We became fast friends and commuted together, carpooling to work there . Because of a visit to Judy on a day they had us all stay home from work , I saw my now house in Magnolia Ridge Subdivision and purchased it , so we became neighbors too . Judy was more than a wonderful neighbor and remained a good friend all these years since that first meeting in 1995. Ken and I took trips with her and Allan to Jackson MS , and even almost bought an Antebellum home with them in Natchez MS. Judy often called me on Sundays to check up on goings on . I always enjoyed talking with her and had her join me with her craft finesse in volunteer opportunities . Judy was always a delight to be with, her good nature and personality always shined, and she always made you feel like she cared so much . Like Billy mentioned, she was a terrific cook, as we attended a few of her Christmas dinners and Sunday occasional dinners together . She put up a good fight but the cancer was bigger than her . She is now at peace but will always be remembered in my heart for the wonderful caring person she was . I truly miss her and can´t fathom the idea that I can´t pick up the phone to chat with her and catch up . I keep on looking at her house and thinking about Judy and all she endured the last 15+ months. Judy will be sorely missed until we reunite again 1 day in the hereafter . Sending deepest sympathy and condolences to Allan , Billy , John, and her entire family . The world won´t be the same in my eyes with Judy gone , but heaven got another angel when Judy got there . Love and hugs to her entire family and all the friends missing Judy.
