A Reminiscence
YES, thou art gone! and never more
Thy sunny smile shall gladden me;
But I may pass the old church door,
And pace the floor that covers thee.
May stand upon the cold, damp stone,
And think that, frozen, lies below
The lightest heart that I have known,
The kindest I shall ever know.
Yet, though I cannot see thee more,
'Tis still a comfort to have seen;
And though thy transient life is o'er,
'Tis sweet to think that thou hast been;
To think a soul so near divine,
Within a form so angel fair,
United to a heart like thine,
Has gladdened once our humble sphere.

Dear Tom, My heart is broken for your loss... I am sorry I was not there to be some help for you. I see from many comments by friends and relatives that Julene did not wait for tomorrow to be happy , influence others and raise their spirits. When I heard about her condition, I immediately thought of her in the congregation as I spoke. Tommy and her were having a great time together. Her smile brought a measure of comfort to me. Again my sincere condolences to you and your family.

When I heard about her passing, it didn't connect at Church, until I put her in at the Attendance Office at Elk Ridge Middle School. And then it was like a major piece of our lives had gone away. It's hard to find the right words to say when someone you love has passed away... Julene, to me, was the Captain of her attendance team at school and it seemed that I would always get her when my son would call home sick or injured in P.E. I could always talk to her about what was going on with him and she ALWAYS would understand and tell me that it would be okay...We will miss her greatly and wish for our Heavenly Father's blessings to be with her family and know that she will always be watching out over you...

I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Julene. She was a very good friend to me growing up and we shared many happy times together in orchestra, in 4H, in church, and just being together. I had lost track of her because I live in California now with my family. I just want you to know what a good example she was to me all of our growing up years together. We lived on the same lane - Meyers lane and went to the same schools, rode the same bus together, and shared our secrets. I never remember her saying anything bad about anyone - she was special. I am glad that I had a chance to know her. I am so sorry for your loss.

Julene you were so nice to me, and sweet, as you were to everyone. I hope that wherever you are now, that your okay. And that your family will be helped along the way. Cause if I remember anyone from Elk Ridge, it was your welcoming smile, and your little laughter, and caring gestures. I love you and will miss you terribly, I will keep a close prayer for you and your family, I hope you enjoy soaring through the deep blue sky with your loved ones :)

Julene was always the brightest face and the sweetest person at Elk Ridge. I came to appreciate her ability to remain a swan in calm waters no matter how hectic things were. What a rare and beautiful person. I and my children will miss her gentle voice and sweet smile.

Dear O'Dell Family,
I'm sorry to hear of Julene's passing. I always loved her sweet and humble spirit. She always had a smile on her face.
I remember my first time going as a leader to Young Women's Camp. Liz Margett's, Julene and I were all in the same tent. We got laughing so hard at night that the girls complained we were keeping them awake.
She was very talented. Anything she did turned out well. She will be missed very much.

It was an honor getting to know Julene this past year. She happily helped me with huge challenges and had a smile for even my most difficult students at their most difficult moments. She found something positive in every child and she simply enjoyed them all. I can't imagine Elk Ridge without her. What a gem.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. We find, as you do, solace in knowing that our Heavenly Father is in charge and that He loves us. The knowledge of the restored gospel and the blessings available because of the sacrifice of the Savior bring comfort and peace at times like these. This knowledge turns hurt into hope and eventually hope into happiness. May God Bless You.

I wish we were there with your family, I woke up this morning anxious for our trip to Utah in a couple of days, excited to see our friends we haven't seen for so long, Julene being the first one to pop into my head, I wanted to surprise her with a big hug at her front door. Julene is the kind of mom I want to be, she always said play with your kids! She took my kids when I was sick, walked my colicky baby around the neighborhood, made us meals, and when my husband was out of state for 4 months, you name it she and her family were there. Julene my heart is broken, I thought of you this morning, and had no idea that you had left this mortal life, Travis says it must mean that you are happy! We love you, and your sweet family.

I will miss seeing Julene in the office at ERMS. She was always smiling and she did make me laugh. I loved that about her. She was always so help and kind. She gave me a ride home from registration one day last year when my husband was running late. It was a little out of her way but she said "no problem". School will not be the same without her laughing at her desk. She was a wonderful women. You are very blessed to have her. I lost my father suddenly a few years ago also. I hope that love and peace will surround you and that you remember how truly blessed everyone was to have known and loved her.

Julene is one of my favorite people! She always had a smile and was so helpful to me right from the start when I began my teaching career. I knew that I could always count on her. I enjoyed stopping by her desk and swapping ideas for new sewing projects - she truly was an amazing seamstress! I am really going to miss seeing her cheerful smile. I pray that our Heavenly Father's love and peace will surround her family at this difficult time.

Dear Aunt Deborah, Uncle Rulon, & family,
What sadness we feel for the loss of our sweet cousin. To lose your daughter and sister is almost more than one should have to bear. We loved Julene and will miss her very much. You raised a lovely daughter. And, cousins, your sister will be gone from you, but she's always and forever in your heart.
We send our love and will keep you in our prayers.

Dear Tom and family,
We are so sorry to hear about Julene's passing. You don't need us to remind you how wonderful she was, but she really was a lovely, choice lady. We will surely miss her at reunions and occasionally running into her around town. She had the sweetest smile and was always so kind to us. As big as the extended family has gotten, Julene still always made time to talk with us, her cousins. Again, we will miss her.
We send our love and prayers to you all during this difficult time.

I have never met a more honest and kind woman in my life. I loved my job at ERMS because Julene made it a wonderful place to be. Not only was she my co-worker, but she was a dear friend. It won't be the same without her sweet smile and kind heart. She will be missed dearly. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Julene, my dearest and sweetest cousin, my best buddy in high school and co-worker at Midgley Manor, she made me laugh many, many times. I admired and looked up to her in so many ways. My fondest memories of youth are of the times I spent with her. Distance and years have kept us apart but she has remained in my heart and always will.

No words can express how much we loved Julene. She was a sister-in-law and friend for thirty years and when we could get together, she was always a fun person. I have tried so hard to get a flight to UT from MI, but it's the holiday weekend and it's impossible.
I know my brother and my nieces and nephews and families will feel lost without her, but I also know that she has a heavenly kingdom. The Father gave her to us for a time but now He has called her home.
My condolences to the ones left behind. John and I will both be praying for you and we love you all. May the Lord bring you peace during the days and months ahead.

To Julene's family:
I'm sure you would know this, but Julene created an atmosphere of friendliness, helpfulness, true caring for all members of the faculty and staff at ERMS. She set that examples for her assistants, as well, and their phone responses, replies to requests of things we couldn't do on the computer, information on a situation or a student that would help us serve the community better was always forthcoming. She knew these things would help us do a better job, Sweet, heppy, a beautiful smile--that was always Julene. She stayed at her station--her desk--often late, serving 1500 kids and a staff of one hundred, a huge and difficult job. I feel so sad today for all of you. It's a good thing I (we) know what I (we) know. How else could we (you) bear this?

Our mom truely lived by example. She always made everyone feel valued and special no matter what. Her giving personality brought lots of friends, and we feel she really made a difference in this world, and was able to help many many people. We love her and hope we can always strive to live as she did. We're so grateful for all the happy memories we have with her.
