Julia Carver 1923 ~ 2011 Julia Carver, age 87, died May 26, 2011 from a brief battle with cancer. She was born September 1, 1923 to William George and Julia A. Sabin Carver. She attended school in Salt Lake and graduated from East High. She later went on to NYU where she received her MA in Administration of Education. During her teaching career she taught at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, Montclair State College in New Jersey, University of Oregon, New Mexico State, Humbolt State College in California, BYU, and BYU- Hawaii. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and enjoyed her time serving three missions for the church. Not only did she enjoy her teaching career, but she enjoyed teaching her extended family the importance of the family and of their own history. Many hours have been spent compiling books of information on the family members. Juel was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and two nieces, Geneva (O'Carroll), Gladys (Johnson), and William A. Carver. Caril (Johnson) Staten, and Kay (Johnson) Thompson. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jacquelyn (Johnson) Davidson, Colleen (O'Carroll) Keirnes, Sharon (O'Carroll) Jones, Alan C. Carver, Julie (Johnson) Beard, Dean W. Carver and Reed H. Carver. We want to thank all the doctors and staff at Emeritus at Salt Lake for all their help and care given to Juel during her stay with them. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Ensign Stake Center, 135 N. A St. Friends and family may call on Tuesday evening, May 31st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple and one hour prior to services at the Stake Center. I was privilaged to know Julia for many years. She was an interesting, thoughtful, energetic, intelligent woman I am grateful to have passed ways with. I was sorry that she ended up with cancer, grateful that she was at Enterprise (aka Brighten Gardens) and knew that she was in good hands there. She will be missed. My sympathies, Susan Edwards MD

Dr. Carver taught me to swim when I was a student at B.Y.U. Hawaii. I first met her in my "Fitness for Life" class in 1980 and then took two swimming classes from her. I know how to survive in water now thanks to Dr. Carver. She was my life saver.

I was privileged to become acquainted with Julia many years ago (1960s) when we both taught at BYU-Hawaii (in those years it was The Church College of Hawaii). She was held in high esteem by all of those with whom she was associated. She was a choice person.
