Julia Darkoch

Julia Darkoch, 94, of Kingwood, Texas, formerly of McKees Rocks, died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009. She was born Jan. 21, 1915, in McKees Rocks. Julia resided in Pittsburgh until 2002. She and her husband owned the Rox Sporting Goods and helped establish the first Little League in the 1950s in McKees Rocks. Julia was always generous with her time and also considerate and caring for others in many ways. After moving to Texas, she remained involved with various seniors activities in her local community. Julia was preceded in death by her husband, Peter; daughter, Barbara; sisters, Mildred Halupa, Ann Stecko and Irene Mitter. She is survived by her sister, June Davis; daughter, Kathleen Zyroll; son-in-law, Thomas Zyroll; grandchildren, Tate and Toby (Megan); and great-grandchildren, Julia, Tyler, Cody and Tate, all who reside in Texas and Louisiana. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the VALERIAN F. SZAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 238 Helen St., McKees Rocks, where a prayer service will he held at 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Szal Funeral Home and continue at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
