Dorothy Mae Vick

Lafayette - Dorothy Mae (Barnard) Vick, 86, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018. Dorothy was the youngest child of Emery and Minnie (Tutor) Barnard. She was born in Pekin, IL on August 21, 1931 to her parents and two older brothers, Edward (wife Bernice) and Donald (wife Marjorie), who have all preceded her in death. This wonderfully pure and loving woman had several professions throughout her full life, but she was most happy caring for others. She worked as a nanny for two families in the West Lafayette area for many years. She loved those families as though they were her own, and they loved her. Dorothy was an angel on Earth, always giving and always demonstrating love and kindness. To know Dorothy was to love her completely. Dorothy developed Alzheimer's and eventually required full-time care. As her memories faded from her, she retained her inner sparkle. She recognized fewer people and didn't remember visits, but was always happy to see her visitors. Dorothy left this world better than when she arrived simply by being her sweet self.

Dorothy is survived by 2 foster daughters and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the grateful families in West Lafayette who were fortunate enough to have had her assistance in raising their families and teaching them all how to treat others.

A private gathering to celebrate Dorothy's wonderful life will be held at a future date. Tribute donations should be made to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).

Aunt Dorothy was a wonderful person! I miss the days where she made Ramen (baby) noodles and taught me how to color. She was such a wonderful person and truly missed.
