We wish the Pell family comfort and healing at this time and thank Julia and her father for their courage and work as James Baldwin said in these "yet to be United States" for greater respect and honoring in law for the simplicity and healing Power of LOVE.

It is unfortunate that Karin and I did not have the privilage of meeting this wonderful, vibrant woman. Clearly, active in her attempts to progress her cause... and the passion of her feelings. Our loss has been felt by the people we love and care so much about. May our hearfelt sympathy reach the family and friends of this most magnificent woman.

The following is the last letter I sent to Julie-unfortunately, it arrived too late.

My dear friend Julie,

From our first meeting at Michael Shays last spring, over salmon and broccoli, after your Key West winter with our mutual friend, Candace, I knew we would be friends.

Our time together has been too short

A sampling of what would have been.

I know we would have continued playing competitive ping pong and hearts, and I would have continued helping you learn how to lose

more graciously. We would have ridden our bikes for miles, and shared laughter, insight and carefree afternoons watching our dogs, surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of a place we both love.

I am losing you to a medical journey

Of chemicals, compounds and pain,

to a disease, unrelenting and unkind

But you are always in my heart and prayers.

I find comfort knowing you are in capable, loving hands.

Until we meet again.

julie was one cool cat. i had the good fortune of being her cottage mate for three months the winter of 2005. i loved hanging out with her. julie was easygoing, puckish and kind. toward the end of our time together, i told her i thought we would be lifelong friends. little did i know that our time as friends

would be so short. julie will always have a sweet spot in my heart.

Roger and I met Julie in early 2005 and grew very fond of her in the all too brief months of our growing friendship. She was warm, witty, gracious, generous and sincere. We feel such a deep sense of emptiness now that she is gone, and yet there is a place in our hearts where Julie will always live and continue teaching us how to care and how to share.

Julie was a star who rose to prominence in the gay community, a comet who

blazed new paths, a meteor on this life plane touching many lives, and now her essence is universal. We will miss her love and power and presence among us.

We'll watch for her twinkling in the heavens. Teri Weidner
