Julia Schutt Obituary
The daughter of Michael and Mary (Redaruta) Smith, she was born Feb. 16, 1914, in Plymouth, Pa., and married Henry M. Schutt, June 28, 1941, in Elkton, Md. He died Aug 2, 1993.
In earlier years, Julia was an upholstery seamstress and, subsequently, cafeteria administrator for Yorktown Central School District, until retirement in 1970, when the Schutts moved to East Meredith (town of Kortright).
Formerly of Pleasantville and Yorktown Heights, where Julia was a neighborhood Girl Scout chairman and active in the Methodist Church, after coming here, she was chairman of the Kortright Republican Committee, and was chosen Delaware County "Republican of the Year" in 2002.
An avid gardener who enjoyed canning and sewing, Julia was a giving woman, devoted to her family and community.
She was predeceased by a sister, Amelia Luchtenberg.
Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Schutt Morris, East Meredith, and Henrietta and Richard J. Pellecchia, Palm Bay, Fla.; two grandchildren, Julia (Damen) Calamandrei, and Richard R. (Jaime) Pellecchia; three great-grandchildren, Michael Henry and Carmela A. Pellecchia, and Sienna G. Calamandrei; and nephew, John (Ruth) Eckerd.
Friends are invited to call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where private services will be Wednesday, and burial later in Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to East Meredith EMS, appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Julia was a wonderful lady, a good friend, and no one could have been a better mentor. People like her are rare, and we will all miss her intelligence, moral authority, and always upbeat nature.
