So sad to here the news of Julian's passing.
He gave me tremendous help and advice when I joined BTA. Our friendship continued when I rejoined WTB. Always the perfect gentleman, always the smile, always the humour. My sincere condolences to his family.

I was so dreadfully sorry to hear --- only now in June -- of darling Julian's passing. I loved him to bits and so often thought of him -- always warmly -- recalling all the fun times we spent together at BTA New York during the eighties. We were a terrific team, constantly laughing and plotting:) Julian even helped me compose my letter of resignation -- which was brilliant, of course! -- and soon thereafter became my new company's (ICR) first client, an agreement which continued with BTA/VB through 2005. Julian also came to my wedding in Darien, CT as did Andrew who was 4 years old at the time.

The sad irony of all this has been that I was determined to track down Julian this summer during my return to the UK , and, of course, to meet Anthea whom Julian had shared with me soon after meeting her, "Niki, I've met the love of my life." I was so thrilled and overjoyed to hear this, of course.

Recently widowed myself, Anthea, I do so hope that you're coping reasonably well, and, of course, Andrew, Venetia and Felix. I just know that Julian's amazing and indomitable spirit will protect and guard you for many years to come.

My best wishes to you all,
Niki (Clarke) Newall

I was so very sad to hear about Julian's passing. Whenever I met Julian I knew I would always learn something new and so enjoyed the encounters. He had a sharp wit and a great mind. I have a fond memory of meeting him on one occasion for a quiet pint in London during one of his many visits to BTA in Hammersmith. We found a nice corner in the pub and chatted away for over an hour. It was such fun. He was always interested in your news and was such an interesting man to be with. My deepest condolences to Julian's family. Adrian Bevan

Sad to hear of Julians passing. He was an amusing, charming man. We partnered on a number of initiatives. Julian with the British Tourist Authority and myself with the Wales Tourist Board. Always gracious with a wicked sense of humour. My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

Julian was my friend and I just heard of his passing. Tho separated by an ocean I felt we were very close. I shall miss his emails so fill of intelligence, wit and wry humor. I have written this in his memory...

I look out my window and see
Two chairs by the edge of a pond;
White chairs set together
Waiting to be filled
Like the pond with runoff
In the Spring.
But it is Autumn
And one chair will never be filled
Again.
For ever and ever -- amen.

Anthea,
We were so shocked to hear about Julian. He was a larger than life character with a great sense of humour. He always stopped and wound his car window down to talk whenever we were out walking with Samson.
Please don't hesitate to knock if you need anything.
Best wishes. Tim, Karen and the boys. x

Dear All, At the Anchor we are all so sorry to hear of your news. Mark and Harry went off to play golf this afternoon and to spend a quiet moment thinking about you all. I, meanwhile wanted to say what an amazing couple you have been, supportive, kind, generous and thoughtful to each other, and then collectively to us. A real lesson to learn from. I am so glad that you have many school and family friends to help you, Anthea. I hope you can come up and celebrate the special times you had here. With love and best wishes Sophie
