March 31, 2017
The University of Tennessee College of Social Work is saddened to hear that our alum Dr. Julie Grocki has passed away. Dr. Karen Sowers, Dean of the College stated, "I am saddened by her passing. The world will be a little dimmer without her in it. Godspeed Julie!" and Dr. William Nugent, Director of the PhD program added, "Julie was a hardworking student. She loved animals and would go out of her way to save a stray dog or cat. She would also go out of her way to help others. The world will miss her." Our college is proud of our students who, through their lives express the unique perspective of social work: service, social justice, dignity and worth of people, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. We honor Julie for those things.

My Dear Cousin Julie, you are missed. You left us way too soon. I find great solace in knowing that my Mom, your Beloved Aunt Betty who adored you so, reached her arms down to lift you up to be with her and the others precious to you who have passed. I have so many very tender memories of our childhood together on Long Island and those trips to the beach with Karen when we smuggled in my dog, Jombo (makes me smile). Nothing will ever take those memories away and someday we shall all meet again. In the meantime, my love is extended to your dear and devoted Dad who loved you so very much, as well as Karen and Caitlin. Blessings Abound. Much Love, Liz, Michael, Breanna and Ryan Bart (Samish Island, WA)

Julie lived in my neighborhood in Johnson City. I would see her about every day until she got couldn't run or walk. I loved to see her smile and we would talked and laughed about life. But we prayed also for each other. My heart is so sad but I know Heaven has gain an Angel for eternality. Julie can now see her dogs that have been waiting for her to join them on the rainbow bridge. Julie was precious to me and I loved her dearly. I will pray for Stan, Karen and Kaitlin that God will continue to give them strength and encouragement in their time of grief. Love you Julie and I will see you in heaven someday...

Prayers for family and friends.
Julie was a good friend. She had a kind heart and a keen intellect as well as her tremendous musical talent. I was fortunate to meet her at Wesley Memorial UMC and become her friend. The time spent with her will be long remembered.
Till we meet again...

I used to see Julie riding her bike when walking my dog on Rangewood Road in Piney Flats for several years before I met her at Wesley Memorial UMC. She was always a kind, positive and generous spirit. I worried about her these past couple years. You have my deepest sympathy for your loss. May she now rest in peace. Joan Scheu

Oh, dear Lord. I knew "Dr. J" was suffering a lot with persistent health problems, but I had no idea she was close to death,
It was just a few months ago that she wisely recommended to me her book, "Depression and the Evidence or Positive Focus, Humor and Laughter" which I promptly put on my Kindle: it's a good, practical read. Julie was a spiritually generous woman, helped me to get a better insight into my troubled son, and was very kind to me,personally.
Saddened, but holding all things up to the Lord, May He lift from her all the burdens of this life, free her from every trace of sin and sorrow, wash her in new innocence, fair as the lilies of the valley, and make her glorious in His Kingdom.

Julie was a great friend growing up. We had many funny times together.
Like the time she road her bike from Massapequa Park to Lindenhurst and back again in the middle of the night. When we first met in Religion Class she said to me Hey Girlie. She always said good things to me and was understanding and supportive through these years. Even though she moved away every Christmas I received a card with a couple of pages about her year. I am so proud of her accomplishments. I am so sadden to hear of her passing. I will always love and miss her forever.
