Watching this dancer, on the wedding day of his niece, was joyous. Julio's life light shined, as I met his love, Ellen. Thank You for being there for her. Blessing and Love

We have many wonderful memories of Julio that keep him with us always.
I enjoyed our little joke that we were brothers, who had grown up in Bogota together; he in Bogota, Columbia and me in Bogota, New Jersey. He would even introduce me as his brother.
We send our love to his family and friends.

Julio Julio Julio.
OMG too many memories and always with laughter. Oh you are gone far too soon. I thought a brilliant light had been extinguished--then I saw that your light still glows radiantly through your incredible family of relatives and friends, and your legacy as one of the teachers that students always remember.
We raised our kids together on Fair Oaks Street in San Francisco, a little enclave of running kids, hide and seek, music, laughter, barbeques and beers, and your rice.
Julio's rice, one of the better things in life. So many stories.
Julio never met a joke he didn't like, and let's face it, the dirtier the better. He made us laugh uproariously. And then a bit of cumbia, and I can see Julio and Ellen laughing and dancing.
Julio, it was a privilege to know you and to be part of your universe. You touched so very many souls. I pray your memory is a blessing to your family. I know it is to me.
With all my love,
Holly

There are some teachers whose personality and kindness stay with you forever. For me, Señor Leon was one of those teachers - perhaps more than anyone. He is the reason I speak Spanish with a little bit of a Colombian accent to this day. I'm so sad to hear of his passing but I am glad that I got to be one of the lucky MCDS kids who got to be in his Spanish classes and play on his soccer teams. RIP Señor Leon.

I teach seniors and every year, when they have to write a letter to next year's new students, so many students, particularly Latino students, speak of Julio in the sweetest way. They sometimes characterize him as a gentle uncle as well as a mentor, someone who made them feel comfortable and celebrated. I did not know Julio well but I enjoyed every interaction we had. We talked about guitars once, and he and I had both recently purchased new guitars and we were both excited. I wanted to run home and play after hearing him talk about playing! He exuded enthusiasm and positivity, and it was just a pure pleasure to be in his orbit at school/work.

I am so sorry for your loss. I taught with Julio at San Rafael High School and he was really a joy to work with. We would have great conversations in the copy room about his life experiences...he even danced with my tiny daughter (5-year-old ballerina) while we waited for copies to go through one afternoon. What a force for joy he was.

Julio! amigo querido! RIP Julio!
