June Allen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 23, 2022.
Obituary for June Ann Allen: Born February 19, 1960-Died April 2, 2022.

June A. Allen passed away on April 2, 2022, in Rochester General Hospital, Rochester, New York, following lengthy illnesses. She passed peacefully and was closely attended by her loving parents and siblings.

June is survived by her mother Patricia A. Allen, her father Ralph D. (Joanne) Allen, her sister Lisa R. (James Scalise) Allen, brother Jeffrey C. (Stacie) Allen, nephew James C. Scalise, niece Emma C. Scalise, nieces Kellie M. Allen and Lucy T. Allen, and by nephew Charles C. Allen. June is also survived by her uncle Charles Ellis Delameter and by three doting aunts: Julia Z. Allen, Beth Allen- Shumate, and Nancy (Kenneth) Haas.

June was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Cloy E. "Bally" Hurley and Wanda Hurley Eddy; by her paternal grandparents Ralph C. Allen and Arvella Tade Allen; by her loving uncles Terry L. Allen and Paul E. Shumate; and by her aunt Marilyn L. (Ellis) Delameter.

June was the first child of first child parents and both her maternal and paternal grandparents were first children of their generation. June was born in Unionville, Missouri, on Feb.19, 1959, when her grandparents were introduced to baby June. She was delighted by their loving attention, and she was charmingly confused in sorting among generations of grandmas and grandpas.

June's earlier years were marked by the high mobility of the 1960's. She was born in Unionville, Missouri, and lived in Des Moines, Iowa, where her father attended Drake University, and her sister Lisa was born. In 1964 the family moved to Greece, NY, where her father joined the Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester. The following year, June and family moved to Queens, NY, where her father helped staff the Kodak pavilion for the 1965 New York World's Fair.

Leaving Queens, June and family shifted to the West Coast in Whittier, California, and soon to La Habra, California, where June entered grammar school, acquired her brother Jeffrey, and the family purchased their first home.

In 1970, June and family moved back East to Dahlia Drive in Fairport, NY. There she completed grammar school and high school. June was a gregarious student and a popular cheerleader at Fairport High. She made lifelong friends there and developed her love for music, singing and enjoying many types of crafts.

Following graduation, June was attracted to health care and helping others. She attended the Marian S. Whelan School of Practical Nursing and graduated as an LPN in 1982. She was a practicing LPN for nearly 20 years working in Baltimore and in the Rochester, NY, area. June also earned a B.S. in English from State University of New York, Brockport in 1991. She loved children and had planned to teach elementary school, but declining health issues prevented her from pursuing this career.

June's last years were marked by deteriorating health. She spent several years in the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic and affiliates where she was a high-profile patient with many friends among the staff and patients. June loved music, singing, crafts, games, bingo and the ducks and swans that inhabit the grounds. Her rooms were filled with photos of her family, collectibles, and plants.

A memorial service was held for June on April 5th in the Clifton Springs Chapel. June's family was gratified by the lovely memorial service by the Chaplain and by the many thoughtful memories related by the nursing staff who had cared for June so well and for so long.

A family memorial service will be held on June 10th in Lancaster, Missouri, at the Schuyler County Church of Faith. June will be interred at the Saint John Cemetery in Livonia, Missouri, in a family plot near her maternal grandparents.

June is a beautiful person. We dated on and off for several years through junior high, high school, and college. She loved music and loved singing along with her favorites, Bob Dylan, Etta James, Cat Steven´s, Elton John and others. She loved her many friends and family. We lost touch after her wedding and I was very sad to hear of her death. I know she´s found peace and my love goes out to her, Jeff, Lisa, Pat and Ralph.

I was so sorry to hear of Junes passing. I remember her as a beautiful, kind energetic cheerleader. We had such fun in high school. My prayers are with her family.
