June and Hal adored our children and they adored them. We always loved spending time with both of them. They were inseparable. John and Ellen Liberg. Blanding Road Hanover.

I met June in 1991 at the Hanover Red Angus farm. We were introduced by a mutual neighbor who knew we both loved birding and the great outdoors.
June in turn, introduced me to others who had formed The Natural Area Guardians in Jo Daviess County and were about to start the first of many prairie restorations in the area.
We remained good friends and learned about native prairies together with the help of Jim Rachuy, another Prairie Enthusiast, whom I married in 1996.
Jim and I visited Hal and June in Sanibel over the years and were great admirers of their dedication to conservation of native habitats, especially on the island. We also enjoyed June´s generosity in giving us a week´s stay at a beach-side condo on Sanibel-a prize she had won in a fund-raising raffle.
June was a dedicated member of the local book club for nearly 30 years, and we enjoyed many wonderful discussions on the farm´s screened porch in the summer months.
She will be remembered with much love.

Even before meeting her in person, I called her "The lovely June", a bit of an inside joke Mark and I had going about our mothers, who were friends.
When I met her, her loveliness (and wit and smarts) were confirmed. Oh, and her patience, too-- the Patinkin household was delightfully rowdy.
This wonderful obituary has added to my appreciation for this remarkable woman. My sympathies to all she leaves behind.

Mark, Doug, Matthew, and Nick (and all your families) I Thinking of you all as you mourn the loss of a woman who was to me (and probably to all who knew her) a perfect mom--strong, warm, kind, generous, open-hearted, full of good humor. My memories of June go back about as far as my memory goes--my parents, Judy and (the late) Stan Kovacs, were very close pals with Hal and June from Lab School (June) onward to U of C and from there to a group they were all part of called "Young Marrieds" in Hyde Park in the 1950s. I remember spending time at the red brick house in South Shore, snacks in the kitchen, other family gatherings that go way back. But what I remember most about June throughout is her beautiful face, her beautiful smile, her kind voice, her gentle amusement at the antics of her family, and her kind welcome, whenever over the ensuing sixty or so years I would encounter her. My heart goes out to all of you as you move forward with each other as she joins Hal and Hugh in your memories. Much love to you all, and my deepest condolences.
