Another deputy and I helped put out a fire in a trailer house he owned down in Pinon. In gratitude gave me one of his albums, which has the song Pretty Little Words. That album stayed in my CD player in my sheriff's pickup and I listened to it MANY times (especially on quiet nights while on duty) and shared it with others, one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever known. Rest in peace, Junior, your music made a difference in my life! Sgt Billy Anders, OCSO, retired

What a kind, sweet treasure of a man! I'm grateful I was able to spend some time with him at Ashokan over the years - hear him play, sing and entertain. Sending love and peace to his family, thanks for sharing him with us.

What a beautifully written account of Junior's life. I was a huge fan of his fiddling and had the pleasure of touring with him c. 1984 on one of the Cowboy Tours produced by the National Council for the Traditional Arts. Love to all of Junior's family.

As a long time resident of Arizona, a member of the Arizona Old Time Fiddlers Association, and a rhythm guitarist, I accompanied junior at many fiddle contests throughout New Mexico and Arizona over the years. In 1980 he asked me to join his band on a musical tour in the Persian Gulf for the US State Department. The band, which included his daughter Tammi, performed In several cities in five countries including Morocco, Tunisia, Bahrain, Yemen and perhaps Algeria. The band opened for the well-known Bluegrass group, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. We were well received at every venue and written up in the local newspapers. It was quite an experience I will never forget. Junior was a soft-spoken, generous person with always a kind word for all. He will be sorely missed. Marshall Racowsky

I´m very proud to say that Junior played Listen to the Mockingbird on my fiddle at the Weed Cafe and told me that it was a good instrument. I will never hear it make those sounds again as he was absolutely the best musician that I´m proud to have seen and danced to as a young man. RIP
