Earle T. 'Doc' Maxcy, 86

WALDOBORO - Earle T. “Doc” Maxcy, 86, died Wednesday July 6, 2005 at Coves Edge in Damariscotta.

He was born March 24, 1919 in Thomaston to Earle T. Maxcy and Ruth Lermond Maxcy. He grew up in Thomaston and graduated from Thomaston High School.

He married Dorothy E. Smith on Nov. 29, 1939 and they settled in Waldoboro.

Earle worked at Snow's Shipyard in Rockland during World War II. Later, he worked driving trucks for Cleveland Farms of Stoneham, Mass. He bought the trucking business which he operated for about 20 years. In 1960 he went into the excavating business which he operated until July 2002. In this period he contracted snow plowing for the town of Bremen for 29 years.

He had many interests which included hunting, fishing, Ham Radio (K1JHN), and Shriners. He was a Deputy Sheriff for Lincoln County since 1958 and was made an honorary member. Earle was also a member of the Orff's Corner Church in Waldoboro. He was a member of King Solomon's Masonic Lodge #61 in Waldoboro.

He was very active in town affairs serving for a short time as town manager in the early 1960s. He was also a selectman and chairman for many years. Earle was a devoted Sheltie Collie owner. He had several over the years. Earle and Dorothy loved to hop in the car and travel for miles to check out a good restaurant and always taking “Jules,” the sheltie. Earle will be missed by family and friends for his jovial manner and his love for a good joke.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Maxcy of Waldoboro; a son, Dale L. Maxcy and his wife Shiela of Waldoboro; granddaughter, Kelly L. Hanley of Waldoboro; great-grandson, Dustin L. Chamberlain of Waldoboro; brothers, Robert Maxcy of Waldoboro, and Harlan S. Maxcy and his wife Myra of Friendship; sister, Marilyn J. Maxcy Levensaler and her husband Cedric Levensaler of Yarmouth; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m., Sunday, July 10 with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. The funeral will be held 10 a.m., Monday, July 11 at the Hall Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Bellows will officiate. Burial will be in the Orffs Corner Cemetery in Waldoboro.
