The Family of Kalman Samuels, Q.C. regrets to announce the passing of Kalman, in his eighty-fifth year, peacefully and in the presence of his loving family, on the 31st day of December 2011.
Loving husband of Stella (nee Flader), devoted father of Maurice (Luly), Kayla (Thomas), Leslie (Jennifer) and Benjamin (Juliet); and proud grandfather of Michael, Nicholas and William, Natalia and Mark, Jacqueline and Joshua, and Isabelle and James. Kalman will be deeply missed.
Son of the late Maurice Samuels and the late Lena Tarshis, survived by his sister, Sybil Taveroff and three nephews, Alan, Michael and David. Kalman was born at the Royal Victoria Hospital on December 3rd, 1927. He was a graduate of Strathcona Academy, MacDonald College (Science), McGill University (Law School) and University of Laval (Law School).
Actively involved in his law practice for more than 50 years with his wife and co-counsel, Kalman was devoted to his family and his community. He took great pride in his service to educational, religious, professional and political organizations, including Temple Emanu-El-Beth-Sholom (Trustee), Republic of Serbia (Honorary Consul), American Association of Justice, (Governor), Fondation du Barreau Quebec (Gouverneur), Jewish General Hospital Foundation (Trustee), University Club of Montreal (Board), Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA), American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers (Certified Member), International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and Vermont Public Television (Director).
Kalman will be remembered forever by all who were touched by his friendship, notable acts of kindness, devotion and leadership.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the capable and compassionate caregivers for Kalman in recent years, including the devoted professional staff at the Jewish General Hospital.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4 at 12 noon, at the Temple Emanu-El-Beth-Sholom Congregation, 4100 Sherbrooke St. W., Westmount.
Burial at Temple Emanu-El-Beth-Sholom Congregation Section, Mount Royal Cemetery, 1297 chemin de la Forêt. Shiva will be held on January 4 at 10 Roxborough Avenue, Westmount, Quebec following the burial; Subsequent Shiva services will be private.
